This course is for childminders who want to know more about superhero play and understand why children want, or need, to play in this way. “Pretend play combines two wondrous and uniquely human characteristics – the capacity for fantasy and the capacity for, and need to, make meaning of our experiences.” Susan Linn Do you find superhero and gun play challenging in your setting? Are you unsure if children should play in this way? This subject invites a variety of perceptions and can evoke a varied response within the early years. This course will enable all participants’ voices to be heard and respected through discussion, and aims to develop knowledge and understanding about this potentially controversial subject. We will explore how this play can become a safe and valued part of children’s play experiences.
