This practical course is for people who have an interest in communication, who would like to know about Makaton and learn the signs and symbols for stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. “Being able to communicate is one of the most important skills we need in life. Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate. Makaton is extremely flexible as it can be personalised to an individual's needs and used at a level suitable for them.” www.makaton.org The Makaton beginner’s workshop consists of four modules. You will learn Makaton signs and symbols for stages 1 – 4. You will receive a certificate of attendance and booklet which includes signs and symbols when you have attended all sessions. Once completed you can attend Makaton Networks for continuing professional development, sharing ideas, strategies, signs and symbols. No previous experience of Makaton is required to attend this course. Please bring a packed lunch as no lunches will be provided.

A one day interactive workshop which builds on the mandatory Recruitment & Selection e-module (Search Events/Online learning), which must be completed before attending this course. The workshop is intended for South Gloucestershire Council employees who are currently recruiting and enables them to design and practice all stages of their recruitment process. This course will explore abuse in the context of the spectrum of behaviours and actions experienced and perpetrated by young people. It will focus on strategies and approaches to developing in young people the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise signs of abuse and define appropriate responses, both those that they control and those that they need support from family, friends, school or external agencies to deal with. The course will highlight links with, and areas where it builds on, learning and skills arising from the developing healthy relationships and understanding sexual consent courses we offer
