Code: SGC/17/1313 Defensible Decision-Making (EVENT FULL)

This 1-day workshop is for South Gloucestershire Council Adult Care practitioners ONLY. Its key purpose is to equip staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make judgements and clearly record the rationale for decisions that are robust, supported by the relevant evidence and defensible when scrutinised by others. Practitioners need to assess people’s needs and their desired outcomes and then make decisions that keep that person and their carers at the heart of the assessment and support planning process. In all aspects of their work they have to find ways to balance a number of competing pressures including arranging person-centred care and support that meets Care Act and Mental Capacity Act requirements, whilst also managing risk and safeguarding issues effectively, using the organisation’s recording policy and using resources effectively.

Code: SGC/18/112 Developing Children's Maths and Literacy Outdoors (CF)

This course is for practitioners who are new to outdoor play and learning and those wishing to develop their understanding of why and how we can incorporate maths and literacy into outdoor play. Children often learn best outdoors as it suits and supports their learning style and motivation. Their fascinations with sticks, stones and other natural resources are a perfect tool and environment to enable children to express their knowledge, ideas and curiosity with a subject that is often only thought about inside using numbers and pencils. Come with an open mind for hands-on learning. We will be outside whatever the weather so please bring waterproofs, stout shoes and warm clothes.
