Safeguarding Adults is a high priority aspect of the social/healthcare task. The role of a manager/practitioner in ensuring that staff respond appropriately to a safeguarding concern is vital. These staff also need to be confident about their own responsibilities in safeguarding adults, and responding appropriately to concerns about a person’s safety. This 1-day course will assist managers/supervisors, Social Workers/OTs and other practitioners including in healthcare be clear about their role, how Making Safeguarding Personal impacts on it, and how to make decisions about what to do next.

Acorn Health & Safety have recently revised their guidance regarding the wearing of face masks. From 1st August 2020, it will be mandatory to wear face masks during practical elements of the course however delegates may choose to wear the mask throughout the course.

This applies to our First Aid and Manual Handling courses, where 2m social distancing cannot be maintained.

If you are attending any of our courses, please can you ensure you bring your own 3 ply face mask. Fabric masks and face coverings are not acceptable for practical elements.

This half day course is an annual refresher for individuals working in adult social care settings where they have responsibilities for moving people. This course will enable you to build on your existing knowledge and practice. Delegates will be expected to demonstrate how they move people and share knowledge through working on scenarios. This course is designed to be a refresher for anyone working in adult social care with responsibilities for moving people and attendees. Delegates from partner agencies will need to evidence that they have attended a manual handling course in the previous 18 months. Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear as there is a practical aspect to this training.

 Join us for this brand new course exploring the experiences of two care experienced people. The aim of these two session is to help adults understand and connect with the needs and experiences of children and young people in care, leaving care and beyond. This is a superb opportunity for practitioners to learn from those with experience of being in care to support the development of their skills and practice. This is a two session course and participants will need to attend both sessions.

The first session will be led by a young person currently within service in South Gloucestershire, they will be sharing their story, offering a reflective space for practitioners as well as practical tips and guidance on working with young people as well as an opportunity to answer questions.

The second session will be led by Kathy, Kathy and her family were involved in social services for the duration of her childhood. As an adolescent, Kathy was accommodated by the local authority. Kathy’s story is both inspirational and instructive for social care professionals. This session will include:

 Personal narrative and how the stories we are told and tell about ourselves and others impact on our reality and life chances.

Education not necessarily academic, as a route out of a challenging start.

Challenging the damaged goods myth (individual and system based).

Normalising difficult emotions routed in trauma. Building confidence in emotional tolerance and therefore self- esteem

Prior to attending Train the Trainer Workshop there is an expectation that new network members will have attended the Multi Agency Raising Safeguarding Concerns course and ideally also attended the Effective Multi Agency Working in Adult Safeguarding.

Attendees must be able to attend both sessions of workshop.

The workshop is aimed at those who are new to delivering safeguarding adult training sessions to groups or any trainer looking for fresh ideas and a structured approach to their training. It will be a practical workshop to equip new trainers to deliver raising safeguarding concerns within their own organisations.

Following attendance of the Safeguarding Adult Train the Trainer Workshop you will be observed delivering your safeguarding adult training, it is expected that the observation will be carried out within an agreed timescale of attendance of the train the trainer workshop. Verbal feedback will be given after the session has been observed and followed up with written feedback, any recommendations that are suggested will be followed up prior to sign off.
 
Following successful completion of observation you will be invited to join the Trained Trainer Network. This network meets every 4-6 months to share experiences and learning, to swap ideas on best practice and new materials, and to support each other in the key tasks of building and maintaining safeguarding adults good practice.
