Code: SGC/20/338 Learning through the Seasons - Spring (£) (Cancelled)

This course is aimed at anyone new or developing their outdoor skills, or those who have knowledge and want further inspiration to develop an all year round outdoor practice.

This is a fantastic opportunity to look at how play and learning outdoors links in with the seasons. Spring is such an exciting season to explore and discover.

We will look at different types of play and learning to support child development. We will introduce basic outdoor and woodland skills, simple tools, identifying risks, hazards and benefits to help you starting to develop your own practice in the natural environment.

We will explore ideas to develop your confidence and knowledge working with children outdoors in the elements that the great British weather throws at us.

We will be outside whatever the weather. Waterproofs, stout walking boots/welly boots and warm clothing are advised.

This is the third of four standalone sessions offered throughout the academic year, based on the seasons.

Code: SGC/20/298 Looking at your Curriculum – What do you offer? (cf) (Cancelled)

This course is for experienced Ofsted registered childminders and those new to the role who would like to develop their knowledge of the EYFS curriculum to ensure learning takes place across the whole EYFS age range for the children in their care.

Is your curriculum ambitious and sufficiently challenging for all children you care for? Is your curriculum flexible, broad and balanced? Are all your children accessing that curriculum? Can you talk confidently about the curriculum?

This practical course will explore some activities you offer children and support you to identify learning across the EYFS age range. We will look at the role of the childminder in adapting activities and using careful questioning and language to differentiate expectations for all learners, while promoting the characteristics of effective learning.

We will look at:
INTENT – the curriculum planning you do before the children arrive – what knowledge and understanding do you want to share and why?
IMPLEMENTATION – how are you going to deliver learning to the group of children today?
IMPACT – what is the impact of your curriculum? What did the children learn, and remember they have learnt, today?

No charge for Ofsted registered South Glos childminders

It would be helpful if you could email catherine.charlton@southglos.gov.uk  any particular issues that you would perhaps like covered in advance, as a more detailed programme could be drawn up ahead of the sessions, if we know what the issues are.
