This course is for South Glos Council INTEGRATED CHILDREN'S SERVICES Staff only. Investigating any safeguarding issue is the classic search for the truth, and building evidence is essential. Some people have hidden agendas and mislead, some people construct lies to avoid scrutiny. How then do we teach staff to identify and capture lies? What strategies do we have to challenge lying behaviour and also maintain working relationships?

Code: SGC/18/836 Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Essentials for Care Workers

This assessed training course provides Care Workers with the essential skills and knowledge to apply and comply with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 when carrying out their role. The MCA applies to every health and social care worker who is involved in the care, treatment or support of people who are unable to make all or some decisions themselves. Care Quality Commission Inspectors are increasingly asking care workers to explain their responsibilities under the MCA. The MCA provides legal protection from liability for carrying out care and treatment of people who lack capacity to consent, provided that care workers: Understand the principles of the MCA Have carried out a capacity assessment and reasonably believe that the person lacks capacity Reasonably believe the action they have taken is in the best interests of the person. How the training course works: Attend a workshop Submit brief evidence of how you have applied your learning in the workplace Receive feedback on your work which is shared with your employer Once you have achieved the required standard for compliance and good practice in line with the MCA code of practice you will be awarded a Mental Capacity Essentials Training Certificate. Code: SGC/18/541 Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Training Programme - Module 3: Deprivation and Detainment

Please note you have to do this training programme in order. South Gloucestershire Council has launched a new interactive training programme that gives Health and Social Care Workers the skills, knowledge, confidence and practice to apply and comply with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is made up of interactive learning workshops. The new skills and knowledge gained from the workshops are then applied in the workplace and you will send us evidence. You'll be given feedback as you acheive the required good practice and compliance standard of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is designed for Care Provider managers, Social Worker and Occupational Therapy staff and managers, nurses and all other professionals working in health and social care. You can select from a series of modules as relevant to your job which are listed below. How the programme works You attend a module workshop You then submit evidence of what you have learned in the workplace (usually within six weeks) You receive feedback which may be shared with your employer. Once you have achieved the required standard for compliance and good practice in line with the MCA code of practice you will be awarded a certificate for that module. Continuing Professional Development This programme can be used by Social Workers as a basis for Accredited Learning under the South Gloucestershire Council/ University of the West of England Integrated Professional Development Programme.
