This is a 2-day workshop for Team Managers in the council's Children's Services division. It is split into two 1-day sessions (in mid-June & then early-July). The main focus of the workshop is on exploring really practical tools and approaches for managing, supporting and challenging teams and individuals, including aspects such as coaching, communication and performance. The workshop will be led by Lenny Bedoyan.

Code: SGC/18/191 Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Essentials for Care Workers (EVENT FULL)

This assessed training course provides Care Workers with the essential skills and knowledge to apply and comply with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 when carrying out their role. The MCA applies to every health and social care worker who is involved in the care, treatment or support of people who are unable to make all or some decisions themselves. Care Quality Commission Inspectors are increasingly asking care workers to explain their responsibilities under the MCA. The MCA provides legal protection from liability for carrying out care and treatment of people who lack capacity to consent, provided that care workers: Understand the principles of the MCA Have carried out a capacity assessment and reasonably believe that the person lacks capacity Reasonably believe the action they have taken is in the best interests of the person. How the training course works: Attend a workshop Submit brief evidence of how you have applied your learning in the workplace Receive feedback on your work which is shared with your employer Once you have achieved the required standard for compliance and good practice in line with the MCA code of practice you will be awarded a Mental Capacity Essentials Training Certificate. Are you seeking advice from others who may have “walked in your shoes?” Do you have fostering experience that could benefit other carers? Or are you new to fostering and not sure what to expect? Come along to the X Change, share your ideas and learn from others within a supportive atmosphere. A “peer mentoring” approach will be used, so that carers coming with a particular issue, and those offering advice can all feel heard. Carers with knowledge of a particular topic will be asked to take part, outside speakers can also be invited. All sessions will run from 10am to 1pm, the last hour will an opportunity to bring and share lunch and continue your discussions. Foster Carers across both areas are invited to come together to share knowledge, and experience. This is an open group, but please let us know if you are planning to come.
