This training is specifically for practitioners in South Glos Council's adult social care division. Strength based approaches are not new in Adult Social Care. You will be familiar with this term and will be able to identify aspects of it in your current practice. Our starting point will be recognising the practice strengths and professional curiosity you already apply in South Gloucestershire in your work with adults and carers and enabling you to share ideas and tools with your colleagues. A strength-based approach is as much about how professionals think and feel about their role, and the individuals they work with, as it is about using new and/or different tools. It requires finding ways to share both power and responsibility with people to promote wellbeing. During the session you will have the chance to explore what this means for you and your colleagues in the challenging climate within which you are working.

This course is for all experienced early years practitioners and those who have a particular interest in Maths. Do you support children who are not interested in the mathematical resources that you provide? Do you feel you may need a little more support and guidance to encourage your children to develop their mathematical development? Do you have difficulty in capturing their knowledge and understanding in your observations? This course will explore how to promote children’s mathematical development through the use of creative activities, resources and experiences. During the session we will discuss the challenges of capturing children’s mathematical knowledge through observations and the importance of the adult role in fostering children’s mathematical development.

To understand the experiences and practice issues relating to children and young people who are at risk of sexual exploitation.

A one day interactive workshop which builds on the mandatory Recruitment & Selection e-module (Search Events/Online learning), which must be completed before attending this course. The workshop is intended for South Gloucestershire Council employees who are currently recruiting and enables them to design and practice all stages of their recruitment process. This 90 minute workshop aims to increase your understanding of emotional resilience and techniques to improve it. We look at five building blocks of emotional resilience; adapting behaviour, recognising feelings, challenging thoughts, resilience techniques and developing positivity.
