This basic awareness course is specifically for foster carers and will cover information on the law, guidance and procedures that protect and safeguard children nationally and within your local area. It will also provide evidence towards meeting Induction Standard Six; Safeguard Children and Young People.

These workshops build consistency in good practice across children and young people's services.

These events are suitable for Childminders and the SENCO in your setting. Keeping up to date with local and national information is a challenge for everyone. These networks will provide Childminders and SENCOs with a range of experiences, with opportunities to come together to share information and to engage in professional discussion and dialogue. Meetings will be structured to provide: • Local and national updates • An opportunity to discuss and explore a current early years SEND topic or theme • An opportunity for practitioners to share good practice and learn from each other The focus for the meeting will be posted on the VLE one month prior to the meeting taking place.

4 day course for prospective social work practice educators. Open to registered social workers with at least 2 years post qualifying experience who have agreed to take a student in the next six months. Please discuss with Sian Smith before enrolling. This one day course provides adult social care staff who are responsible for moving people, with basic information and skills at an introductory level.The course is designed for anyone working in a care setting who are required to move people within their role. Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear as there is a practical aspect to this training.

For participants from a variety of settings and backgrounds to gain a basic awareness of mental health which they can draw upon in their day-to-day work and is aimed at any managers or staff in any sector who work with adults or children and would like to know more about Mental Health. This one day course will place emphasis on the social aspects of mental health including the stigma of mental ill health and some of the equal opportunities issues within the field. The perspectives of people who experience mental health problems will be central to the day. The standard charge for this course is £80. This course is designed to give you the knowledge to become a Breakthrough mentor; Breakthrough mentoring supports people to develop positive experiences and relationships, enabling them to achieve, grow and develop new skills and to realise their full potential. So what is a mentor? A Breakthrough mentor is someone who works alongside a vulnerable person (mentee) to empower them to become independent and live a fulfilled life. They will work individually with the mentee, using activities that engage and motivate them to gain confidence, self-belief and work towards independence. What type of person are we looking for? Our placements are unique and varied, which requires us to have a diverse group of mentors. You don’t need a set of qualifications, just special qualities that enable you to support your mentee to learn, grow and develop.
