This is a 1-day workshop delivered by Research in Practice. The session is aimed at: frontline practitioners who want to improve their analysis and critical thinking skills in the context of assessment. It may also be relevant for managers wanting to disseminate approaches to assessment to their team.

Once downloaded, read pages 1-10 from the handbook.

Come with a live case in mind:
During the session a case will be used to model an approach to analysis and to facilitate case discussion. All participants must therefore come prepared to discuss a live case and to take an active role by either presenting a case for discussion, or facilitating a case discussion.

Please note that you do not need to bring any paperwork with you.

These networks will provide Childminders and SENCOs with:
Up to date information about national and local initiatives regarding SEND.
Opportunities to share professional discussions and dialogue on an identified topic or theme for the evening.
Opportunities for practitioners to update their knowledge and share practice on SEND.

Each series of meetings will have a spotlight on a particular aspect of SEND. This may include a speaker and will provide practitioners with opportunities for professional discussion and dialogue.

This training is aimed at managers who want to improve how they manage difficult conversations with members of their team. The content is primarily focused on maintaining good levels of performance within teams, but can be used to support other conversations such as those when managing change. This day will provide a range of tools and techniques that will help you be more confident in difficult situations. The standard charge for this course is £70 per day but for council employees there is no charge.

Do you need to update your IT skills but don't want to attend a full-day course? Bite-size IT sessions take place in the IT suite at the Kingswood Training Centre. The sessions last approx 90 minutes, with 4 sessions on each date

Excel exists to turn unwieldy impenetrable datasets into crisp, clean reports, literally in seconds. If you are having to number crunch huge lists, this is essential for you – and not a formula in sight! Who Should Attend? Users who are accustomed to working with large data sets and creating formulas. NOTE: Users should have a working knowledge of the areas covered in Excel Essentials prior to attending this course.

One Note is a digital notebook where you can store all your documents for a project - notes, emails, documents and share them with colleagues. This introductory session will introduce One Note to you and show you the basics to set up a One Note notebook.

The standard charge for this session is £16.

Do you need to update your Microsfoft Word skills but don't want to attend a full-day course? This bite-size IT session takes place in the IT suite at the Kingswood Training Centre and lasts approx 90 minutes. An introduction into using Word more effectively.

This network provides an opportunity for practitioners who have already completed certificated Makaton training to refresh and recap signs from stages 1-4 and discuss practical ways to use signs and symbols in everyday situations.

You will be informed of Makaton developments and look at themes to support and develop your Makaton practice such as festivals, songs, animals, colours and those found on the Makaton website. It is an opportunity to network, share challenges and good practice.

This training is specifically for practitioners in South Glos Council's adult social care division, i.e. Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Work Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Senior Practitioners etc.
Strength based approaches are not new in Adult Social Care. You will be familiar with this term and will be able to identify aspects of it in your current practice. Our starting point will be recognising the practice strengths and professional curiosity you already apply in South Gloucestershire in your work with adults and carers and enabling you to share ideas and tools with your colleagues. A strength-based approach is as much about how professionals think and feel about their role, and the individuals they work with, as it is about using new and/or different tools. It requires finding ways to share both power and responsibility with people to promote wellbeing. During the session you will have the chance to explore what this means for you and your colleagues in the challenging climate within which you are working.
Aim: To enable delegates to gain a consistent set of underpinning knowledge and to further develop skills and confidence in applying a strength-based approach in practice

This 1-day course is for people working in an environment that involves disclosures of sexual violence/ sexual abuse. It Covers: - Barriers to disclosure -Current Sexual Violence Legislation -Discussions About Safeguarding -Information about trauma, flashbacks, and grounding techniques -The support needs of survivors of rape and sexual violence - Services that are available for survivors of rape and sexual violence.
