Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative experiences in early life and childhood that can have an impact on health and wellbeing throughout life.
South Gloucestershire is committed to developing a co-ordinated and consistent ACE-informed approach, with a focus on recognition, prevention and early intervention and the cultural change that may be needed to support that. An ACE-informed approach is moving away from asking ‘what is wrong with you’ to asking ‘what happened to you’. It is more than just knowing about ACEs; it is using that knowledge to work together to:
- Prevent ACEs in future generations, including breaking the cycle within families
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of ACEs to enable appropriate early intervention to build resilience 
- Recognise the impacts of ACEs already experienced in children and adults and help them to receive support
- Support and build resilience in communities, families and children who are at risk of exposure to ACEs

The ACE Ambassador Network includes professionals from across public sector agencies, VCSE organisations and communities, and experts by experience. As well as delivering ACE-awareness raising sessions, the network offers opportunities to share updates and best practice and to build professional relationships and support. We hope that this network will be the mechanism by which cultural change will occur.

This half day training session is for participants who have signed up to be ACE Ambassadors from a variety of settings and backgrounds. Participants will already have basic awareness of ACEs and their impacts across the life course. This session is aimed at managers or staff in any sector who work with adults or children and would like to know more about how to facilitate the culture change needed to become ACE-informed. Participants should have been identified within their organisations as ACE Ambassadors and have notified aces@southglos.gov.uk of their interest in the role prior to attending.

Target Audience - all adult care workers supporting people in South Glos in: learning disability services, services for people living with dementia, older peoples’ services, mental health services. To help staff to understand the concept of person centredness and its implications for good practice. To help staff to develop skills in working in a person centred way, in a range of settings. This one day programme is intended for any individuals from the Council and staff from all Statutory, Voluntary and Independent sectors working with people with Epilepsy. Non-care staff need only attend the morning session of this course. The course is a combination of interactive discussion, demonstration and practice with equipment and group work. CS1 .This course has been tailored to suit the needs of Foster Carers, Adopters and Family Link Carers who look after children on a 24 hour basis. This is a certificated course, so please ensure you can arrive on time and attend all of the course.

A half day workshop for managers, aimed at providing the tools and techniques to lead change in the workplace. Covering areas such as leading change positively, personal resilience and emotional intelligence this workshop will help managers identify the methods to support members of staff and effectively deliver workforce change.

Moving and Handling Update for Keymovers

Whether this is your first post in teaching, you have come from teaching in another age group or you are returning to EYFS following time teaching in another year group, these sessions will focus on different aspects of the Reception classroom. 

Have you identified your disadvantaged children? What are you planning for narrowing the gap? Is your environment supporting learning and development for your cohort?
 
We would like this training to be responsive to the needs of NQTs and experienced teachers new or returning to EYFS in addition to any focus we may agree in response to national and local initiatives or EYFS data, so please bring along your ideas and suggestions.

This is also an opportunity to make links with other teachers in EYFS and has always been a useful discussion forum for sharing ideas, tips and concerns.
