Code: SGC/20/1382 Complex Case Analysis and Interventions

This workshop will provide attendees with a practice-rich day with a focus on breaking down and planning interventions for challenging cases. Those attending will be given an opportunity to explore 'live' cases with Richard Rose, who will offer guidance and practical tasks to support your work. In preparation for this training, those that have registered to attend will be invited to send specific anonymous case issues to be explored during the workshop. The programme will provide opportunities to share experiences, learn from colleagues and engage with credible strategies to promote protection, safeguarding and wellbeing for children and their families and carers.

The workshop will include theory, child development, assessment approaches and life case discussions.
Who Should Attend?: This training is aimed specifically at practitioners undertaking and supporting direct complex case work with children and young people within the community services sector.

The workshop will be led by Richard Rose, Director of Child Trauma Intervention Services Ltd (CTIS) which seeks to engage with children affected by early life trauma and to help them achieve their full potential. Richard undertakes consultancy and training on Life Story Therapy and working with 'hard to reach' children and adolescents and develops academic training programmes in the UK and internationally. Prior to founding CTIS in 2011, Richard worked in the UK in local authority child protection and in the highly regarded residential therapeutic treatment agency SACCS, including four years as the Clinical Practice Director of the Mary Walsh Institute. He is the author of three books including Life Story Therapy: A new therapy for traumatised children – A model for practice, published in 2012 and Innovative Therapeutic Life Story Work 2017. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University.

Pre-requisite: Connect 5 Mini or Connect 5 Live-Online Module 1

Connect 5 is an accredited, evidence based workforce training programme. It is an incremental, three-module programme, escalating skills through each session. Participants can choose to take Module 1 only, Module 1 & 2, or Module 1, 2 & 3.

Connect 5 aims to improve population mental wellbeing by changing the way we have conversations about mental health. It provides a collaborative prevention toolkit that promotes psychological knowledge and the development of skills which empower people to take proactive steps to build resilience and look after themselves.

Connect 5 takes the position that we don’t need to be mental health specialists to support those who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems. It underpins the principles of Making Every Contact Count, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Five Ways to Wellbeing.

The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health.
Connect 5 Live Online is an interactive, virtual classroom training course conducted via Zoom.

Please note: A day prior to the event, you will be sent an email with course materials and an invitation link to join the Zoom training.

Code: SGC/20/1298 Control in times of uncertainty (EVENT FULL)

An introduction to a simple and effective tool the control dartboard, helpful in times of change or unpredictable conditions. The model can help at home or at work, it can be applied to self or others and is a great way of taking the “sting” of emotional responses out, to help us apply logic to our thinking. A very practical model that can be applied in a variety of situations and can really help to “free up” stuck thinking.

This workshop will be delivered as a webinar via Zoom.

Code: SGC/20/1331 Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control

This is a virtual course delivered by Sarah Wigley, commissioned on behalf of the South Glos Safeguarding Adults Board. It is aimed at practitioners working in adult care services - across both statutory and IVP sectors - for whom it can act as an "intermediate"-level domestic violence and abuse course, e.g. to be completed before going on to do the Domestic Abuse: Advanced training and the Working with Perpetrators course (see LSCB training pathway). Children's services workforces may also find it helpful in terms of the particular focus on Coercive Control that this workshop covers.

Code: SGC/20/1259 Online ACE Ambassador Training

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative experiences in early life and childhood that can have an impact on health and wellbeing throughout life.
South Gloucestershire is committed to developing a co-ordinated and consistent ACE-informed approach, with a focus on recognition, prevention and early intervention and the cultural change that may be needed to support that. An ACE-informed approach is moving away from asking ‘what is wrong with you’ to asking ‘what happened to you’. It is more than just knowing about ACEs; it is using that knowledge to work together to:
- Prevent ACEs in future generations, including breaking the cycle within families
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of ACEs to enable appropriate early intervention to build resilience
- Recognise the impacts of ACEs already experienced in children and adults and help them to receive support
- Support and build resilience in communities, families and children who are at risk of exposure to ACEs

The ACE Ambassador Network includes professionals from across public sector agencies, VCSE organisations and communities, and experts by experience. As well as delivering ACE-awareness raising sessions, the network offers opportunities to share updates and best practice and to build professional relationships and support. We hope that this network will be the mechanism by which cultural change will occur.

This training session is for participants who have signed up to be ACE Ambassadors from a variety of settings and backgrounds. Participants will already have basic awareness of ACEs and their impacts across the life course. This session is aimed at managers or staff in any sector who work with adults or children and would like to know more about how to facilitate the culture change needed to become ACE-informed. This course is FREE of charge. If you would like to find out more about joining the network but are unable to deliver training, please contact aces@southglos.gov.uk

Participants should have been identified within their organisations as ACE Ambassadors and have notified aces@southglos.gov.uk of their interest in the role prior to attending.

Please note - We will send you a Microsoft Teams invite/link a few days before the training.
