Code: SGC/20/1431 Connect 5 Live-Online Module 3: Changing the Conversation on Mental Wellbeing (EVENT FULL)

Pre-requisite: Connect 5 Live-Online Module 2

Connect 5 is an accredited, evidence based workforce training programme. It is an incremental, three-module programme, escalating skills through each session. Participants can choose to take Module 1 only, Module 1 & 2, or Module 1, 2 & 3.

Connect 5 aims to improve population mental wellbeing by changing the way we have conversations about mental health. It provides a collaborative prevention toolkit that promotes psychological knowledge and the development of skills which empower people to take proactive steps to build resilience and look after themselves.

Connect 5 takes the position that we don’t need to be mental health specialists to support those who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems. It underpins the principles of Making Every Contact Count, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Five Ways to Wellbeing.
The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health.

Connect 5 Live Online is an interactive, virtual classroom training course conducted via Zoom.

Please note: A day prior to the event, you will be sent an email with course materials and an invitation link to join the Zoom training.

Code: SGC/20/1255 Responding to Aggressive Behaviour (Lone Working in the Community or Office) - Zoom

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already attended 'Understanding & Responding to Anger & Aggression' you do not need to attend this one.

This one day course is designed for staff and volunteers who provide a service to children and/or adults in the community where they may be working alone; in the service users own home or in office based situations, engaging with people face-to-face or on the telephone. Staff who work alone in the community and in service users own homes can be subject to angry and aggressive behaviour from their service users. Staff working in offices and One Stop Shops are required to respond to members of the public on the phone or face-to-face. It is not unusual for customers to be upset and angry when they make contact with the council. Employers have a responsibility to put systems in place to support safe working practices; training in this area is an important part of the strategy. This course focuses on how to respond calmly and communicate effectively with people in an angry or aggressive state, to maintain the safety and dignity of both the member of staff and the customer/ service user/member of the public.

These 50 minute coaching sessions with coaches will assist council staff in coming up with strategies and action plans to maintain and build their wellbeing and resilience. Unlike counselling which provides a safe space to explore worries and concerns, these confidential coaching sessions will help staff come up with individual plans to help them build their resilience, understand what they can do to enhance their wellbeing and overcome current and future obstacles. There are activities and exercises that wellbeing coaches can also give people to work through in their own time if they would find it useful.

Please note these sessions will be delivered by skype or telephone.  Your coach will contact you to confirm the best method for you.
