Code: SGC/20/120 Coaching Skills (EVENT FULL) (Cancelled)

The Council promotes the use of a "Coaching style" of management, which empowers staff to take responsibility for their own performance and work. The ability of managers to coach the performance and development of their staff is therefore considered a key skill. The time invested in developing coaching skills can deliver some very positive outcomes, such as, delivering increased motivation, performance and removing barriers and blockers to progression. Coaching skills can change the way people think about your leadership and you can inspire confidence and self-belief in your team. You have an opportunity to motivate others in a positive and inspirational way. If you arenÐt a manager you can assist and support peers through this collaborative approach to tackling issues. Ultimately it empowers people to perform more effectively and through the tools and techniques you learn on this course you will also find that you become more effective too. This interactive day will give you a greater understanding of how you can use this simple coaching tool to improve the performance of others. YouÐll have a better understanding of what makes people tick and be able to use the techniques to build better relationships with others. The standard charge for this course is £80 per day although for council employees this course is free to attend.

Code: SGC/20/0428 Health & Safety for Managers (Cancelled)

The South Gloucestershire Council Health and Safety team is pleased to offer low cost training for those who have the responsibility to ensure a business complies with health and safety law. We recognise this can be a challenging role for those who work in small/medium sized businesses; here is an opportunity to receive accurate, honest information from the team that inspects your business. You will find we are approachable and keen to help you as much as possible. Who better to give you the answers you need? This course is for managers and supervisors. Code: SGC/20/0524 Principles of Strength-based Practice

CURRENTLY DELIVERED AS A WEBINAR - you will be sent an invite to join

This training is specifically for practitioners in South Glos Council's adult social care division, i.e. Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Work Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Senior Practitioners etc.

Strength based approaches are not new in Adult Social Care. You will be familiar with this term and will be able to identify aspects of it in your current practice. Our starting point will be recognising the practice strengths and professional curiosity you already apply in South Gloucestershire in your work with adults and carers and enabling you to share ideas and tools with your colleagues. A strength-based approach is as much about how professionals think and feel about their role, and the individuals they work with, as it is about using new and/or different tools. It requires finding ways to share both power and responsibility with people to promote wellbeing. During the session you will have the chance to explore what this means for you and your colleagues in the challenging climate within which you are working.
Aim: To enable delegates to gain a consistent set of underpinning knowledge and to further develop skills and confidence in applying a strength-based approach in practice

Charges: This course is currently free.

Code: SGC/20/1412 Understanding Deafness - Zoom Webinar (AM Session)

ZOOM details are in the attached document.  Please ensure you have a Zoom licence to access this webinar.

Most of us take our hearing for granted, but deafness has an enormous personal, social and economic impact. Government, as well as the Chief Medical Officer for England, has stated that hearing loss is now a major public health issue.

Some of your customers and colleagues will be deaf or hard of hearing and many will feel unable to access everyday services that hearing people take for granted.

This webinar, delivered by Gloucestershire Deaf Association, will aim to transform your thinking about hearing impairment. You’ll leave with new information and tips on how to support someone who is deaf or hard of hearing as well as some basic sign language skills. You will also learn about how the International Day for Sign Languages promotes awareness of the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and sign language users.
