Compulsory adult Safeguarding training for all South Gloucestershire Breakthrough Mentors and REACH staff.

The half-day Raising Safeguarding Concerns course is essential training for all front-line staff and managers who are involved in providing services to adults at risk and who work directly with service users.

The course will cover how to recognise Safeguarding concerns, local policies and procedures, and how to raise Safeguarding concerns.

This is a half-day workshop specifically designed for practitioners in the council's adult social care division.

It aims to give an overview of
• court room etiquette and processes.
• recording techniques for the recording of essential evidence
• key court forms , providing a guide to completion of the Court of Protection forms to increase worker skills and confidence in writing court documents.

This network is suitable for all EYFS leaders, Reception teachers and teaching assistants making assessments of children’s learning and using them to develop quality of provision. It may also be of interest to assessment co-ordinators, deputy heads and head teachers who are looking to develop their understanding of assessment in early years.

This network will focus on developing your skills in assessment, required by the statutory assessment and moderation of standards process, in order to plan teaching and learning opportunities and support your practice in school. The network will provide opportunities to reflect on good practice through group work and discussions; engage in inter-school agreement trialling; and receive ongoing updates and news about assessment policy development.

The EYFSP 2018 handbook (p13) states that:
“when practitioners are evaluating the effectiveness of their assessment processes they should consider:
child development….;
planning….;
the environment….;
the need for detailed understanding of the EYFS framework for assessment….;
high quality adult interaction….;
the organisational aspects of provision, resources, curriculum and people.
Successful implementation of these aspects of pedagogy and provision will enable practitioners to make an accurate, reliable and consistent assessment of children’s learning. This will inform planning for year 1.”

This practice-based course looks in depth at an issue that is commonly encountered by mental health practitioners and social workers and which has no easy answers. It gives an opportunity to review the relevance of the Mental Health Act & Mental Capacity Act, the Care Act 2014 and the involvement of environmental health, and to discuss local issues. This course is aimed at experienced practitioners, leaders and room leaders who are looking to embark on a thought provoking journey to ponder how we develop and ignite lifelong learning in all of our children. We will wonder together how we support children to become resilient, confident and competent learners.

Park for a moment the formal ‘learning’ stuff…. the ‘what we need to learn and hopefully by when’. A little strange to ask isn’t it, but let’s consider the emotional, the cognitive, the strategic and the social aspects of learning. Let’s marvel in the fact that babies can show the same degree of curiosity and intense interest as someone at six!! We need to first find ways to understand children’s development as learners before we jump ahead assessing skills and knowledge. Let’s celebrate and focus on the competences for learning.

This course will explore what it means to become a lifelong learner and the skills and dispositions needed to support this. We will work together to reflect on what this means for ourselves and for the children and families we work with. We will develop ways of introducing the language for learning concept in your setting. Celebrate the process, the journey not the outcome, and destination…. We want our children to be the crew, not the passengers.

This course is the third module in the Direct Assessment and Intervention Skills training programme which provides the opportunity to understand child development theory and practice, the effect of trauma, grief and loss on children and young people, their parents and those affected by the vicarious nature of trauma. The programme will provide opportunities to share experiences, learn from colleagues and engage with credible strategies to promote protection, safeguarding and wellbeing for children and their families and carers. Each workshop will include theory, child development, assessment approaches and life case discussions. The standard charge for this course is £70 per day. This 1 -day course is suitable for all managers who recruit staff that work directly with children and young people. It is strongly recommended that recruiters attend the course as an essential part of good practice in this key area of their work The standard charge for this course is £80 per day. This woman’s leadership development programme seeks to address the under representation of women in management roles within the council through a women’s only programme which builds confidence, informal networks and develops an understanding of women as future leaders. This inspiring and engaging programme is for existing female managers who wish to progress in their careers or aspiring managers and leaders.
