This practice-based course looks in depth at an issue that is commonly encountered by mental health practitioners and social workers and which has no easy answers. It gives an opportunity to review the relevance of the Mental Health Act & Mental Capacity Act, the Care Act 2014 and the involvement of environmental health, and to discuss local issues. Code: SGC/19/447 Mental Health Awareness (EVENT FULL)

For participants from a variety of settings and backgrounds to gain a basic awareness of mental health which they can draw upon in their day-to-day work and is aimed at any managers or staff in any sector who work with adults or children and would like to know more about Mental Health. This one day course will place emphasis on the social aspects of mental health including the stigma of mental ill health and some of the equal opportunities issues within the field. The perspectives of people who experience mental health problems will be central to the day. This course is currently free to everyone.

Code: SGC/19/676 Providing Care & Comfort at End of Life- Module 2

Who should attend - All adult social care staff supporting service users/carers who have already attended Module 1 (Understanding Loss in End of Life - an Introduction) or equivalent introductory training in this area. The course is not suitable for people who have suffered a personal close bereavement within the last 12 months. This 1 day course is a follow-on workshop for staff working in a professional care role. It will enable participants to have an understanding of how to meet an individual's care needs and maintain comfort and dignity in the last few days of life.
