The training is organised by South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership and is targeted at all staff from all agencies who are working directly with children, or adults who are parents. Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgement and the ability to work together co-operatively. Staff with lead roles in child protection require specialised training in order to carry out their work with abused children and families. Please note it is recommended to leave a minimum of 3 months between attending Introduction to Child Protection and Advanced Child Protection.
Please DO NOT book onto the Advanced Child Protection course, unless you have attended the Introduction to Child Protection course. The knowledge needed for this course is dependent on you having attended the previous session. Thank you.

The need to successfully capture the views and wishes of children is a concept that is both philosophically shared as well as embedded in legislation. Those working with disabled children need to draw on a skills base of creativity, flexibility and advocacy in order to ensure the voice of each child is captured, valued and used to influence and enhance the quality of disabled children's lives and experiences.

Join us for this new course exploring the experiences of care experienced people. The aim of this session is to help adults understand and connect with the needs and experiences of children and young people in care, leaving care and beyond. This is a superb opportunity for practitioners to learn from those with experience of being in care to support the development of their skills and practice.
The session will be led by Kathy who will be supported by Anna. Kathy and her family were involved in social services for the duration of her childhood. As an adolescent, Kathy was accommodated by the local authority. Kathy’s story is both inspirational and instructive for social care professionals. This session will include:
Personal narrative and how the stories we are told and tell about ourselves and others impact on our reality and life chances.
Education not necessarily academic, as a route out of a challenging start.
Challenging the damaged goods myth (individual and system based).
Normalising difficult emotions routed in trauma. Building confidence in emotional tolerance and therefore self- esteem
By booking onto this course you are giving permision for your contact details to be passed onto the trainer.
