 Join us for this brand new course exploring the experiences of two care experienced people. The aim of these two session is to help adults understand and connect with the needs and experiences of children and young people in care, leaving care and beyond. This is a superb opportunity for practitioners to learn from those with experience of being in care to support the development of their skills and practice. This is a two session course and participants will need to attend both sessions.

The first session will be led by a young person currently within service in South Gloucestershire, they will be sharing their story, offering a reflective space for practitioners as well as practical tips and guidance on working with young people as well as an opportunity to answer questions.

The second session will be led by Kathy, Kathy and her family were involved in social services for the duration of her childhood. As an adolescent, Kathy was accommodated by the local authority. Kathy’s story is both inspirational and instructive for social care professionals. This session will include:

 Personal narrative and how the stories we are told and tell about ourselves and others impact on our reality and life chances.

Education not necessarily academic, as a route out of a challenging start.

Challenging the damaged goods myth (individual and system based).

Normalising difficult emotions routed in trauma. Building confidence in emotional tolerance and therefore self- esteem

This webinar is aimed at people working with 5-11 year olds and focuses on recognising and helping children with anxiety. It looks at what is anxiety, an understanding of anxiety and the different types of anxiety. 
 
It is ideal for professionals who have a basic knowledge of anxiety or professionals who would like to refresh their knowledge in this area.

This 1-day course is for people working in an environment that involves disclosures of sexual violence/ sexual abuse. It Covers: - Barriers to disclosure -Current Sexual Violence Legislation -Discussions About Safeguarding -Information about trauma, flashbacks, and grounding techniques -The support needs of survivors of rape and sexual violence - Services that are available for survivors of rape and sexual violence. This blended half day course has been developed in direct response to the current Covid 19 situation, and is designed specifically for online delivery to smaller groups of participants. It covers what self-harm is, and why people might hurt themselves, as well as providing space to think about what a helpful response to someone who has hurt themselves might be. It has a strong emphasis on bringing the voices of people who use self-harm to the virtual room, and provides space and time for reflection. This course has been developed to either stand alone or complement others in a series of events, and utilises a range of tools to offer a participative online training experience.

Worksheets, handouts and copies of the presentation will be available to complement learning.

Our expertise: Self-Injury Support has 30 years’ experience in delivering high quality self-harm education to a wide variety of settings and participants. Our approach is participative and reflective, and is focussed on bringing the voice of people who use self-harm into the room, building empathy and confidence for supporters.
