South Gloucestershire Health Visitors, Fai Pope and Wendy Hollister, will be guests at this weeks session. They will be there really just to say hi and answer any questions you may have for them. They may also give you a little explanation as to what their new 'Health Visitor Programme 'MECSH'' is all about too.
However this support group will not be a training session as that is planned for Monday 17th January 2022.
Search "MECSH - Introduction to a new Health Visitor Programme - Training for foster carers" if you would like to reserve your place on that.
The Purpose for the support groups
We realise that fostering can be really difficult at times. Perhaps the only people who really understand it are other foster carers and so therefore we want to give you a place to meet up.
There will be biscuits and/or cake, coffee, tea, and an opportunity for an informal chat at all of the meetings.
Although these will be informal meetings, each session will have a brief agenda, attendance list, and agreed group rules. This is to help those who don’t know anyone and feel awkward about coming along to a new meeting, to feel that they won’t be left alone on the side-lines.
Sometimes there will be speakers and topics as requested by the group, this will hopefully make it as relevant to your fostering as you like.
These sessions should be recorded on your Personal Development Plan (PDP).

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already attended 'Understanding & Responding to Anger & Aggression' you do not need to attend this one.
This one day course is designed for staff and volunteers who provide a service to children and/or adults in the community where they may be working alone; in the service users own home or in office based situations, engaging with people face-to-face or on the telephone. Staff who work alone in the community and in service users own homes can be subject to angry and aggressive behaviour from their service users. Staff working in offices and One Stop Shops are required to respond to members of the public on the phone or face-to-face. It is not unusual for customers to be upset and angry when they make contact with the council. Employers have a responsibility to put systems in place to support safe working practices; training in this area is an important part of the strategy. This course focuses on how to respond calmly and communicate effectively with people in an angry or aggressive state, to maintain the safety and dignity of both the member of staff and the customer/ service user/member of the public.
The standard charge for this course is £80 per day. Please refer to our Course Charges on the Home page for information on discounts and exemptions.
