Child Protection Update Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgment and the ability to work together co-operatively. Staff with lead roles in child protection require specialised training in order to carry out their work with abused children and families.

This Is a CPD workshop for those practitioners who are currently undertaking, or have completed, the following training:

This is an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge and enhance your identification skills within the natural world of flora and fauna. 

You will be able to use various resources to support your awareness and familiarity of trees, plants, animals and habitats. This will enable you to have more confidence and ideas to take back and use within your setting to develop children’s play and learning.

We will be outside for the entire session whatever the weather. Waterproofs, stout walking boots/welly boots and warm clothing is advised.

This training aims to provide attendees with a greater knowledge of human trafficking and slavery and explore the issues facing individuals who have been trafficked, how to correctly identify and spot the signs of potential exploitation and how to report suspected incidents. This course is suitable for staff who have regular contact with suppliers; contractors; the public and families (including adults and children and young people; AND/OR regular involvement in safeguarding issues; and managers who manage these services). The training will cover: • What trafficking and slavery are • Nature and scale of the issue – nationally, regionally, locally • Types of trafficking and slavery • How to recognise the signs • National and local examples of the issue • The National Referral Mechanism – what it is • South Gloucestershire Council employee responsibilities This is a 90 minute awareness session available at both KCC and BMR. This is a condensed version of the 3-hour Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery training which is available at KCC only, on a quarterly basis.

This interactive 2-hour workshop supports adult care practitioners to understand the current context around Telecare and Assistive Technology in the organisation.

It is led by internal staff with expertise to explain the relevant equipment and to demonstrate what is available for customers, so that practitioners can ensure they cover these options fully and in a knowledgeable and informed way.

It takes place at Celestine House in Yate, to enable delegates to experience at first hand the newest IP/SIM card linked lifeline equipment in the house, which enables people to make “live” test calls through to the dpeartment's control centre. South Glos Telecare have purchased some of these new units in preparation for the switch from landlines to IP connected calls which will take place by 2025.
