This 1-day course is suitable for all staff who are in regular contact with individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Course Aims: Develop knowledge and competencies in working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

The course is delivered by Matthew Trerise, a specialist trainer who has 15 years of experience in supporting people with ASC in a wide range of care settings, including residential, low secure and in the community. Matthew currently works for a nationally recognised specialist diagnostic service, delivering training and clinical supervision to frontline staff across the care pathway.

This bespoke workshop for the 0-25 Service's Transitions Team aims to enable participants to gain an insight into deafness and to develop basic communication skills to use with deaf and hard of hearing people.
It includes practical exercises (e.g. lip reading test and how much sign language can you learn in half an hour?)

This is a half-day course delivered by Sarah Wigley, commissioned on behalf of the South Glos Safeguarding Adults Board. It is aimed at practitioners working in adult care services - across both statutory and IVP sectors - for whom it can act as an "intermediate"-level domestic violence and abuse course, e.g. to be completed before going on to do the Domestic Abuse: Advanced training and the Working with Perpetrators course (see LSCB training pathway). Children's services workforces may also find it helpful in terms of the particular focus on Coercive Control that this workshop covers.

This is a one day course for participants to develop the skills necessary to provide emergency first aid to someone who has an accident or suddenly becomes ill at work. Participants will be trained and assessed during the course in order to receive a certificate. Please note - you will be required to complete 3 practical assessments and a multiple choice test. You need to bring Photo ID eg passport, driving licence. If these are not available please bring your Work ID with photo If you require assistance with reading/writing please let the use know prior to the start of the course.

What is it? This is a new dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers, Including Special Guardians.

Why are we running it? We recognise that your situation is very different to that of main stream foster carers. The new role that you find yourself in now, is often not a pathway you may have planned on taking. Unlike foster carers, you are thrown in at the deep end without having had a course to prepare you for what lies ahead, and how ‘The System’ works. This course aims to do that as well as recognise the particular difficulties that you as ‘Kinship Carers’, whatever your role, face.

How will it run? There will be six sessions, each lasting approximately 2-2.5 hours, which will take place over the course of a year. It is hoped that you will attend all six, but as new carers arrive, they can join the programme at any stage.

The sessions will be led in the main by Social workers from our team. There will be light refreshment of tea and coffee provided at each session, but it would be rather nice if we could take it in turns to bring and share some food. The first session will be catered for, but we will discuss how this works for future sessions at the end of our first meeting. What will we cover? The programme will cost of the following topics: Working with the Department Transition of your role: delegated authority, divided loyalty, duties and responsibilities Attachment and Trauma Planning Contact ( Planning on Keeping in Touch) Connected Carers/Special Guardians sharing their experience: managing family dynamics, contact Safer Caring

South Gloucestershire Council has launched a new interactive training programme that gives Health and Social Care Workers the skills, knowledge, confidence and practice to apply and comply with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is made up of interactive learning workshops. The new skills and knowledge gained from the workshops are then applied in the workplace and you will send us evidence. You'll be given feedback as you acheive the required good practice and compliance standard of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is designed for Care Provider managers, Social Worker and Occupational Therapy staff and managers, nurses and all other professionals working in health and social care. You can select from a series of modules as relevant to your job which are listed below.

How the programme works -
You attend a module workshop
You then submit evidence of what you have learned in the workplace (usually within six weeks)
You receive feedback which may be shared with your employer.

Once you have achieved the required standard for compliance and good practice in line with the MCA code of practice you will be awarded a certificate for that module.

Continuing Professional Development
This programme can be used by Social Workers as a basis for Accredited Learning under the South Gloucestershire Council/ University of the West of England Integrated Professional Development Programme

Following on from her masterclass ‘A day in the life of a looked after child’, Jenny Molloy explores myths and assumptions surrounding child sexual exploitation. Being a victim of child sexual exploitation herself, she draws on personal experience, policy and practice and the use of Serious Case Reviews.

This event is aimed at all professionals who come into contact with young people, including managers who have responsibility for supervision, policy and decision-making.
