Being assertive allows you to engage respectfully with other people, whilst also respecting your own needs. It ensures that you don't feel taken advantage of. At certain times, most people find it difficult to communicate honestly, directly and openly with other people. There are two other main ways of relating to others: being passive or being aggressive. Assertiveness involves being clear about what you feel, what you need and how it can be achieved. This requires confident, open body language and the ability to communicate calmly without attacking another person. The standard charge for this course is £80 per day. Child Protection Update Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgment and the ability to work together co-operatively. Three quarters of disabled people have left a shop or business because of poor disability awareness. The Equality Act 2010 states that service providers must ensure that they meet the requirements of equality law. This includes making sure staff are sufficiently trained to deal with and support customers or service users, along with the need to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people.
For South Gloucestershire Council employees, this training links to ‘Empowering Others’ and ‘Customer and Community Focussed’ whereby employees are aware of how to meet the diverse needs of our customers and take care to be inclusive. These are part of the Behaviours within the Council's Framework.
This course will help staff to develop their understanding of the difference between the Social and Medical models of Disability, give guidance on legislation and best practice and help employees to understand how to better support disabled staff and customers/service users. The session will include a built in action plan addressing current barriers to supporting disabled people.
This 1-day workshop will provide the skills to help meet these essential service requirements.
The South Gloucestershire Council Health and Safety team is pleased to offer low cost training for those who have the responsibility to ensure a business complies with health and safety law. There is a legal requirement for all employers to appoint a competent person to take the lead in making sure a business meets its legal responsibilities (Regulation 7, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999). This is usually a manager or supervisor but can be anyone appointed into this role within a business. We recognise this can be a challenging role for those who work in small/medium sized businesses; here is an opportunity to receive accurate, honest information from the team that inspects your business. You will find we are approachable and keen to help you as much as possible. Who better to give you the answers you need? This course is for managers and supervisors. The standard charge for this course is £40 per day. Please refer to our Course Charges on the Home page for information on discounts and exemptionsEssential Information
