This 1-day workshop run by Research in Practice is specifically for: South Gloucestershire Council Children Services practitioners (Social Care, Early Help/Preventative Services etc), IRO's and Managers, as well as Foster Carers. It is also open to partner agency staff working in the Education sector, and the Police.
The workshop will explore how adolescent risk can be addressed, drawing on evidence and looking at:
* Attachment patterns and their importance in adolescence
* Trauma-informed practice - understanding how trauma can impact on adolescents
* The role of relationship-based practice in supporting effective engagement with adolescents
* Understanding adolescent development, including evidence from neuroscience
* Risks facing adolescents
* Supporting resilience in young people

This one day programme is intended for any individuals from the Council and staff from all Statutory, Voluntary and Independent sectors working with people with Epilepsy. Non-care staff need only attend the morning session of this course. The course is a combination of interactive discussion, demonstration and practice with equipment and group work. This training is for people who will be using the Signs of Safety approach in their day-to-day work with children, young people and their families or carers. It is also relevant for people who will be supervising others who are using the approach. The two day Signs of Safety Introduction training is provided by accredited external trainers and places are limited. Key Integrated Children's Services staff to attend are those who chair key meetings and who undertake statutory assessments gathering information from other agencies and where the outcome has a considerable impact on the life of a child/family.
Course Duration: Two days
Course Aims: This training provides practitioners and managers with the skills and knowledge to be able to start to use the Signs of Safety approach in their practice.
