Code: SGC/23/0548 Introduction to Mental Health & Wellbeing (SGC Peoples Dept/Practitioners only)

This course is especially recommended for new practitioners within the Peoples Department or practitioners wishing to increase their awareness around supporting others with mental health. The course is run by members of the Public Health Mental Health Inequalities & Community Engagement team. During the morning we will explore; What is mental health? What is resilience? What inequalities relate to mental ill-health? What is the impact of drugs and alcohol on mental health? As well as practising using tools and resources to support wellbeing.

In the afternoon we explore the 'I thrive' conceptual model of support, local signposting and hear talks from local providers including Vita minds, Kooth and Off The Record.

You must provide a postal address, as well as your e-mail address, in order to register for this course which is delivered via the MHFA England Online Learning Hub.Please e-mail these details to publichealthtraining@southglos.gov.uk who will register you and ensure your resources are sent out.

This is an accessible and flexible online format of the popular ‘face-to-face’ Youth MHFA Two Day course. Learners who complete the course will be certified as Youth Mental Health First Aiders and will receive an e-certificate on completion.

The course is a blend of individual learning and 4 live sessions all of which must be completed for your e-certificate to be issued. Online learning is via MHFA’s Online Learning Hub. Once you are registered, you will be issued with a login code so you can assess the Hub.

You will need a lap top or computer with a web cam and mic for the live sessions and ability to log on to an external platform which is likely to be Zoom. South Glos Council employees will need approval to use an external platform prior to the course starting.

Attendance at all four live sessions is expected.
