Code: SGC/22/0453 The FREEDOM Method (self-study course) SGC Staff Only

The FREEDOM method personal development model® can help you build confidence and self-belief, as well as boost your wellbeing. It is an approach that can be used for achieving small or large goals, making your life easier and happier, providing clarity and purpose, gaining confidence in your decision making or even at its most advanced level for strategic planning. This is something you can use at a superficial or deep level, it’s up to you. Ultimately, you’ll reap the rewards of all of your efforts – the more you put in, the more you’ll get out of it. As part of this course you’ll learn tools and techniques to create change and to help you gain momentum and inspiration along the way.

This course will help your consider where you are now, your confidence levels, experiences and ideas you can use to create positive change in your career and bring this together through action planning. This has been written as a 100 day programme of change. This day would be the first day and it sets the scene for the changes you may decide to make over the next 100 days.

Feedback on the FREEDOM method is that it has led to promotions, further study, improvements in confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing. It has encouraged people to take on challenges they never thought possible. Come on this course if you are ready to make changes in your professional or personal life.

Join us for this brand new course exploring the experiences of two care experienced people. The aim of these two session is to help adults understand and connect with the needs and experiences of children and young people in care, leaving care and beyond. This is a superb opportunity for practitioners to learn from those with experience of being in care to support the development of their skills and practice. This is a two session course and participants will need to attend both sessions.

The first session will be led by a young person currently within service in South Gloucestershire, they will be sharing their story, offering a reflective space for practitioners as well as practical tips and guidance on working with young people as well as an opportunity to answer questions.

The second session will be led by Kathy, Kathy and her family were involved in social services for the duration of her childhood. As an adolescent, Kathy was accommodated by the local authority. Kathy’s story is both inspirational and instructive for social care professionals. This session will include:

Personal narrative and how the stories we are told and tell about ourselves and others impact on our reality and life chances.

Education not necessarily academic, as a route out of a challenging start.

Challenging the damaged goods myth (individual and system based).

Normalising difficult emotions routed in trauma. Building confidence in emotional tolerance and therefore self- esteem
