Code: SGC/18/426 Introduction to First Line Management July 18 - March 19 (EVENT FULL)

This Chartered Management Institute (CMI) recognised management development programme is for managers and aspiring managers from South Gloucestershire Council, neighbouring Local Authorities, and other organisations operating in the area. It provides an opportunity to reflect on your experience and working practices and is equally suitable for new managers making the transition from staff member to manager, existing managers who wish to build on their experience and aspiring managers who are preparing to make their first step into a management role. It sets out the foundations of knowledge and skills needed for development within a management role, and enables managers to identify further training and development needs. The programme consists of 6.5 days over a seven month period with 10 hours of self-directed learning. It will be delivered through a blended solution including face to face training, psychometric assessment, 360 review, action learning sets, individual coaching, individual reflection, skills practice and e-learning. You will receive CMI membership and a CMI certificate of completion of a recognised programme. This woman’s leadership development programme seeks to address the under representation of women in management roles within the council through a women’s only programme which builds confidence, informal networks and develops an understanding of women as future leaders. This inspiring and engaging programme is for existing female managers who wish to progress in their careers or aspiring managers and leaders. This one day workshop is designed to allow first-line managers of social care staff to understand what makes for effective staff supervision and to explore the key strategies and skills needed to make good supervision a reality within their own staff team/workplace. This training is aimed at managers who want to improve how they manage difficult conversations with members of their team. The content is primarily focused on maintaining good levels of performance within teams, but can be used to support other conversations such as those when managing change. This day will provide a range of tools and techniques that will help you be more confident in difficult situations. The South Gloucestershire Council Health and Safety team is pleased to offer low cost training for those who have the responsibility to ensure a business complies with health and safety law. There is a legal requirement for all employers to appoint a competent person to take the lead in making sure a business meets its legal responsibilities (Regulation 7, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999). This is usually a manager or supervisor but can be anyone appointed into this role within a business. We recognise this can be a challenging role for those who work in small/medium sized businesses; here is an opportunity to receive accurate, honest information from the team that inspects your business. This course is open only to line managers working for South Gloucestershire Council. Managers are expected to manage the performance of individuals in their team and this isn't always an easy task. This course covers good management practice in a setting where managers are encouraged to learn from each other's experiences and are able to get HR advice on current issues.
