This inspiring and engaging three day programme is for existing female managers who wish to progress in their careers and aspiring managers and leaders. We have created the content so women at all stages of their careers can benefit from it.

The programme seeks to address the under representation of women in management roles and is designed to build confidence, informal networks and develop our collective understanding of women as future leaders in their lives, team and workplace.

This three day programme will provide participants with an opportunity to focus on personal and professional goals and give ongoing support to achieve them. The workshops are designed to be engaging, fun and interactive, as well as impactful and thought provoking.

Participants will consider themes such as self-awareness, self – leadership, personal impact and influence, and how the actions the take can help them flourish in careers and gain greater job and life satisfaction. It will contain a mixture of discussions, self reflection and self-stud. There will be essential pre-course work, networking and homework tasks in between sessions.

This course is free to South Gloucestershire Council staff. For all external delegates there is a charge of £368.

You will embark on 100 days of change and at the end of the programme create a 12 month plan.

Day 1: The FREEDOM Method – This day is about self-leadership and personal development. The stages are - find out about yourself, review where you are now, experience and learn, explore possibilities, decide, overcome obstacles and make it happen, you will also begin 100 days of change.

Day 2: Personal impact and influence – leadership, generating presence, influence and persuasion, assertiveness and negotiation, personal networks and goal review

Day 3: Inspirational women and leadership – review of progress and achievement – inspirational women – leadership styles - mentoring – career advancement - goal setting for 12 months.

Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Council social care employees only and those in Housing and Commissioning who work directly with members of the public. Join SARI's new learning sessions to explore equality, inclusion, and cultural awareness, focusing on disability and LGBTQ+ equality. These sessions will feature information sharing, discussions, and insights from individuals with lived experiences. SARI will facilitate interactive conversations to help us reflect on our practices and develop recommendations to improve outcomes for our service and the people we support. These sessions are an opportunity to tackle systemic inequalities and engage in dynamic, safe discussions.

This training will boost your awareness and confidence in addressing the needs and challenges of disabled service users, colleagues, or personal acquaintances. You'll gain insights into the diversity of disabilities, including hidden ones, and learn how to amplify the voices of disabled people in important care and life decisions.

This Disability and Neurodiversity Awareness training will explore and demystify many of the topics and questions around this important subject.

We’ll look at topics including definitions, language, the Equality Act and reasonable adjustments, and have an in-depth look at ADHD and autism.

The training will be delivered in a conversational style, with questions and discussion encouraged, and we promise there will be no homework!

Equality, diversity and inclusion is a council priority. This one-hour long session is designed for all council employees and focusses specifically on unacceptable behaviour, why it needs to be challenged and how this can be done.

This session is not an alternative to the mandatory EDI training available for staff. It does recap over some of the areas covered in this training however, it primarily focuses is on what unacceptable behaviour in the workplace might look like, why it needs to be challenged, how this can be done and our responsibility as South Glos Council employees to escalate when appropriate.

Please see attached pre-coursework details which must be completed prior to the training session

We have received feedback from the trainers saying that delegates were unable to do the pre learning as the links didn’t work. Numerous testing by EDP, ourselves and the fact that many other colleagues have had no issues, leads us to conclude that the links are all fine.

However, if you are having difficulty accessing these, please let us know well before the course.
  • Increase understanding around race, racism and systemic racism as well as how it manifests in relation to social care specifically
  • Exploring disparities from statistics that have been caused by systemic racism specific to social care and other core English institutions
  • Understanding our own unconscious bias and social conditioning to help us better challenge ourselves, our thoughts and our beliefs
  • A deep dive into white privilege, power & advantage
  • Cultural awareness and how being aware of cultural norms can help us be more culturally competent when supporting people
  • Learning what microaggression are and what we can do to mitigate against them and how to support somebody who has experienced a microaggression
  • Exploring Language the nuances and connotations associated with some outdated terms
  • How to be an anti-racism ally and what this means as an individual, team and organisation

Code: SGC/25/0229 Tackling Inequalities Together EDI Reflective Practice: Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities

Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Council social care employees only and those in Housing and Commissioning who work directly with members of the public.

This session brings together specialists and individuals with lived experience of working with, living with or being part of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. It will cover the diverse needs and experiences of these communities, including Irish Traveller, English Gypsy, Eastern European Roma, Live Aboard Boater, Show People, New Age Traveller, and Van Dwellers. Topics include GRT equality, disproportionality, specific needs, and barriers, as well as strategies to counteract oppressive practices, myths, and stigma. The session will also feature case scenario discussions, local reports, research findings, and guidance on improving services and employment practices for GRT people.

This is an online course for line managers that provides a practical guide to reasonable adjustments. Line managers are often the first person that an employee will discuss their requirements with and the content of this course will help you to feel confident in offering practical and sensitive support to employees.
