This reflective practice workshop is primarily, but not exclusively, aimed towards leaders and experienced practitioners, and it is hoped that attendees will share their learning with their teams.
The learning in these sessions will be very much through discourse and collaboration, and it will be expected that those attending will either have, or have previously had, or will be taking on cases, that relate to this theme.
Join our insightful session that brings together specialists and individuals with lived experience of working with, living with, or being part of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. This session will delve into the diverse needs and experiences of these communities, including Irish Travellers, English Gypsies, Eastern European Roma, Live Aboard Boaters, Show People, New Age Travellers, and Van Dwellers.
We will explore topics such as GRT equality, disproportionality, specific needs, and barriers, alongside strategies to counteract oppressive practices, myths, and stigma. The session will feature case scenario discussions, local reports, research findings, and guidance on improving services and employment practices for GRT individuals.
This is a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of GRT communities and to engage in dynamic, safe discussions aimed at addressing systemic inequalities and enhancing outcomes for the people we support.

Equality, diversity and inclusion is a council priority. This one-hour long session is designed for all council employees and focusses specifically on unacceptable behaviour, why it needs to be challenged and how this can be done.
This session is not an alternative to the mandatory EDI training available for staff. It does recap over some of the areas covered in this training however, it primarily focuses is on what unacceptable behaviour in the workplace might look like, why it needs to be challenged, how this can be done and our responsibility as South Glos Council employees to escalate when appropriate.
