Do you need to train staff on their job? Have you recently recruited new members of staff and wonder how best to get them up to speed? This one-day workshop is aimed at helping staff and managers to develop skills, to help people learn on the job in their workplaces. The workshop assists people to understand issues such as barriers to learning, structuring workplace learning to meet different needs and how to set goals and assess progress towards competence in a new role.
Learning outcomes
To enable established members of staff to tutor new colleagues in the workplace
Objectives: By the end of the programme, delegates will be able to:
1. State the difference between the roles of tutor, coach, mentor and manager;
2. Differentiate between Honey & Mumford’s four learning styles;
3. Describe the four stages of the learning cycle;
4. Describe barriers to learning and how these can be overcome;
5. Consider what it feels like to start a new job and the emotions this may raise;
6. Describe the attributes of a competent tutor;
7. Discuss theories of communication such as transactional analysis (TA)/ Mehrabian’s theory and its relevance to tutoring new staff;
8. Demonstrate excellent communication skills;
9. Describe and demonstrate how to give constructive feedback;
