Event description
This is a half-day course delivered by Sarah Wigley, commissioned on behalf of the South Glos Safeguarding Adults Board. It is aimed at practitioners working in adult care services - across both statutory and IVP sectors - for whom it can act as an "intermediate"-level domestic violence and abuse course, e.g. to be completed before going on to do the Domestic Abuse: Advanced training and the Working with Perpetrators course (see LSCB training pathway). Children's services workforces may also find it helpful in terms of the particular focus on Coercive Control that this workshop covers.
Learning outcomes
Understand the insidious nature of domestic abuse • Have an increased understanding of a victim's experience, including awareness of why victims don't leave abusive relationships and the lasting impact of domestic abuse • Define when domestic abuse must be considered under Safeguarding Adults procedures, and identify actions to take when this is not the case – including risks to children and when safeguarding children policies must be followed • Consider how to apply Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) in cases of domestic abuse • Explore areas of risk, including Trilogy of Concern • Recognise that domestic abuse is not limited to intimate partner relationships • Apply learning from national and local Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARS) and Appreciative Inquiries (AIs) to support these learning outcomes • Identify local and national partnerships to support victims and perpetrators
