Event description

The South Gloucestershire SAB has established a Network of Trained Safeguarding Adults Trainers, approved to deliver initial “ALERTER”-Level Safeguarding training in the workplace.

Agencies operating in the South Glos area who wish to have a manager/senior employee join the existing Network need them to attend this initial Train The Trainer workshop and then be observed delivering safeguarding adults training in their own workplace, for quality assurance purposes.
If an organisation already has an in-house Safeguarding Adults trainer, or if they can identify someone to take on that role, they are invited to take part in the Network.

The trained trainers who make up the Network are able to:
* deliver SAB-approved Alerter-level training to staff in their own agency, and to open up their training to other organisations as well.
* make use of a standard set of training resources and materials, with other options available to tailor Alerter training to their specific work setting too
* take part in Safeguarding Adults Trained Trainer Network meetings to share good practice, develop new ideas and be part of a group that maintains high standards of training delivery.

The Trained Trainer Network meets every 6 months to share experiences and learning, to swap ideas on best practice and new materials, and to support each other in the key tasks of building and maintaining safeguarding adults good practice. There is no charge for agencies to join the Network.

Learning outcomes
The initial 1-day Train The Trainer (Safeguarding Adults) workshop is led by Bob Dawson, who the SAB currently commissions to run multi-agency Safeguarding Adults training locally.

The workshop focuses on a core set of materials and resources, linking these closely to the local SGA Training Standards that have been agreed by the SAB and that are significantly linked to the National Standards and Competency Frameworks for Safeguarding Adults work.

The session will look at good practice in delivering "alerter"-level training to groups of care and support staff - both in terms of appropriate content and resources, as well as different learning methods to engage participants effectively.

Following this, each Trainer will be offered a support session in which they will be observed delivering a safeguarding adults training session, and then given feedback and advice before signing them off as a Network member.

Members will be required to inform the SAB Learning & Development sub-group of any training they deliver, including which employees attended, to keep the SAB informed about training that is happening locally.
