This half-day workshop is for adult care staff in statutory and independent/voluntary sector organisations in South Glos. It provides participants with a working knowledge of HIV in the UK today, acting as a foundation for further learning around the complexities associated with this medical condition.
Learning outcomes
Define what is meant by HIV & AIDS & the importance of terminology. *Learn & understand the risks of HIV transmission. *Explore attitudes & values surrounding HIV. *Learn & understand the law regarding HIV, including the role of professionals who work with people living with & affected by HIV, including the importance of appropriate information sharing. *Understand the biopsychosocial implications of living with HIV (includes physical, mental, emotional & social issues). *Understand the challenges of an aging population of people living with HIV from both the perspective of professionals & patients.
Post Training Expectations - You should be able to:
*Determine what is and what isn’t a risk for HIV transmission. *Understand and dispel common myths associated with HIV. *Recognise and challenge HIV stigma. *Improve service delivery for people living with or affected by HIV. *Create a safe place for people living with or affected by HIV to access the services they need.
