This half-day session will provide an overview of the issues relating to people with autism who come in to contact with the Criminal Justice System. A basic understanding of autism is required for this course.
Course overview:
Why people with autism might be victims of crime.
Susceptibility to mate crime
Why people with autism may offend
Strategies to support people with autism when they come in to contact with the criminal justice system

Learning outcomes
Gain an understanding of how the features of autism may make people more vulnerable to abuse or to offending behaviour.
Develop an understanding of social vulnerability and people with autism.
Understand the types of strategies that can help support someone with autism who comes in to contact with the criminal justice system as a victim, witness or perpetrator.
Gain an understanding of the requirements of the autism strategy, Think Autism, in relation to the criminal justice system.
