This training session is appropriate for everyone who works in social care settings who interact, communicate with and support people who have dementia.
This day is an updated version of the course entitled, ‘Connecting with People with Dementia.’ The facilitators believe people who have completed the previous course would benefit from attending this course too, as it has been adapted to incorporate Positive Approaches to CareTM. The core principle of PACTM is that as carers, we need to change our approach in order to understand how it feels to be living with the challenges and learn techniques to support people in a person centred way.
The day introduces Positive Approaches to CareTM and will enable participants to develop their understanding and skills in order to provide person centred support to people who have dementia.
The standard charge for this course is £103.50 per day. Please refer to our Course Charges on the Home page for information on discounts and exemptions

This course is for first line and middle managers only.
If you are unable to attend Team’s meetings due to a disability we will provide you with a face-to-face induction. If you need this please email HRlearningandDevelopment@southglos.gov.uk.
It sets out the foundations of knowledge and skills needed for development within a management role, and enables managers to identify further training and development needs. The programme consists of 5.5 days over a six month period with ten hours of self-directed learning. It will be delivered through a blended solution including face to face and online training, psychometric assessment, 360 review, action learning sets, individual coaching, individual reflection, skills practice and e-learning. The topics included are personal development as a manager, leadership and communication, developing individuals and teams, managing employee performance, decision making and managing change, resources and stakeholder relationships. This six month First Line Management Programme provides participants the opportunity to go through the following topics with a cohort of council peers, rather than as standalone training days. The benefit of this can be enhanced networks and greater learning as reflection and improvement is an integrated part of the programme. Participants also benefit from a 360-degree feedback to inform their development and a MBTI psychometric profile.
Please note there is a charge to attend this course for external delegates of £725. South Gloucestershire Council employees individuals teams will be recharged £190 to cover costs.

If you find the content overwhelming, we encourage you to prioritise your well-being. Take breaks, reflect on your boundaries, and seek support from trusted individuals or professionals as needed. For assistance during or after the training, please reach out to the trainer or your line manager in the first instance, contact Interchange the staff counselling service, or you can also access Thrive.
We are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment and promoting empathy and respect for all.
The training is organised by South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership and is targeted at all staff from all agencies who are working directly with children, or adults who are parents. Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgement and the ability to work together co-operatively. Staff with lead roles in child protection require specialised training in order to carry out their work with abused children and families. Please note it is recommended to leave a minimum of 3 months between attending Introduction to Child Protection and Advanced Child Protection.
Please DO NOT book onto the Advanced Child Protection course, unless you have attended the Introduction to Child Protection course. The knowledge needed for this course is dependent on you having attended the previous session. Thank you.
