Code: SGC/21/0712 Being Person Centred

This training is for external health professionals & social care support workers who require a basic understanding of Person centred practice and tools used to support people in their care.

• We will discuss and share ideas and experiences of person-centred practice – how does it differ from other approaches?
• We will become familiar with and try out a range of published person-centred thinking tools which can be used within other care planning/support planning frameworks.
• We will discuss the balance which is often needed between what is important to a person and what is important for them.
• We will become familiar with two published ‘person-centred planning’ tools, Essential Lifestyle Planning and PATH.
• We will identify personal attitudes, values and particular practice skills which support person-centred practice. What does it mean to ‘be’ person-centred when supporting someone else and helping them to plan?
• We will practice communication skills which are identified as useful in person-centred practice.

Code: SGC/21/1153 Light Touch NVR for Foster Carers

We are running a pilot Non-violence resistant training (NVR) ‘light’ course for foster carers across 6 weeks from November to January
Non-violence resistant is a therapeutic approach to reducing the instances of aggressive and/or violent behaviour from children and young people towards their carers.
We want to offer an introduction to the principles which underpin NVR and to support carers in making sense of aggressive/violent behaviour their children and young people display.
Each week we will go through an NVR principle and corresponding techniques which may help to reduce escalations of aggression and violence in the home.
By the end of the training, we hope to have provided you with the tools to make sense of why aggression and violence can occur and escalate from young people towards their carers. We also aim to provide you with techniques to reduce escalation of aggression and techniques to facilitate the ‘resistance’ of violence in the home.

o Week 1: Wednesday 3rd November 10am-12pm, introduce and gain an understanding of NVR
o Week 2: Wednesday 10th November 10am-12pm, what does it involve - summary
o Week 3: Wednesday 24th November 10am-12pm, introduction to escalation patterns
o Week 4, Wednesday 1st December 10am-12pm, the concept and relevance of parental parents to support our young people to make good choice,
o Week 5, Wednesday 8st December 10am-12pm, the concept of supporters and the circle of concern
o Week 6, Wednesday 12th Jan 10am-12pm, to identify and prioritise behaviours of concern and the concept of reparation acts

Code: SGC/21/1095 Wellbeing Coaching - South Glos staff only (Emily Loveday) (Cancelled)

These 50 minute coaching sessions with coaches will assist council staff in coming up with strategies and action plans to maintain and build their wellbeing and resilience. Unlike counselling which provides a safe space to explore worries and concerns, these confidential coaching sessions will help staff come up with individual plans to help them build their resilience, understand what they can do to enhance their wellbeing and overcome current and future obstacles. There are activities and exercises that wellbeing coaches can also give people to work through in their own time if they would find it useful.

Please note these sessions will be delivered by skype or telephone.  Your coach will contact you to confirm the best method for you.
