The training consists of two presentations that provide an introduction to the Autism Spectrum.

Part 1 looks at themes such as what Autism is, traits & behaviours associated with Autism, the social challenges that autistic people face day to day, coping mechanisms, and barriers to employment.

Part 2 briefly recaps the themes from part 1 and looks at themes such as the different types of Autism, skills and abilities commonly associated with Autism, mental health, the pros and cons of the two different models of disability, advice on how best to support autistic residents and colleagues you may work with, and famous people on the spectrum. Part 2 also features interactive elements such as a quiz.

Both presentations feature videos.

It will help you to:
Understanding the development of Forest School and put the Forest School principles into practice.
Understand the co-ordination required for the Forest School programme.
Be able to confidently deliver Forest School sessions and reflect on practice.

This course is designed for those who would like to develop, set up and deliver Forest School programmes. This will enable leadership of Forest School programmes linked to child development. Through a combination of practical outdoor learning and indoor teaching, you will explore the benefits for children as child led learners for lifelong skills. This will enable you to deepen your knowledge and understanding, looking at the philosophy and ethos of the Forest School approach.

Entry requirements: All delegates must be over 21, have a relevant Level 2 qualification, have a current DBS check, have an appropriate First Aid qualification and have an established link with a client group and a Forest School site.

We are part of the Cambium Trainers Network. The Cambium Network has trainers in many parts of the UK. We cooperate in Continuing Professional Development, standardisation of assessment and feedback, submission of work to Agored Cymru (Formerly OCN Wales) awarding body and internal and external quality assurance.

Trainers meet regularly to discuss the latest developments, and to exchange ideas, skills and techniques and to play for the future. Most members of the Cambium Network provide services directly to schools and other bodies wishing to engage with the expanding use of Forest School, Outdoor Learning and Coastal School techniques in early years, primary and secondary education.

• Increase understanding around race, racism and systemic racism as well as how it manifests in relation to social care specifically
• Exploring disparities from statistics that have been caused by systemic racism specific to social care and other core English institutions
• Understanding our own unconscious bias and social conditioning to help us better challenge ourselves, our thoughts and our beliefs
• A deep dive into white privilege, power & advantage
• Cultural awareness and how being aware of cultural norms can help us be more culturally competent when supporting people
• Learning what microaggression are and what we can do to mitigate against them and how to support somebody who has experienced a microaggression
• Exploring Language the nuances and connotations associated with some outdated terms
• How to be an anti-racism ally and what this means as an individual, team and organisation

Social Work England registration session with Philippa Geddes – registered social worker and regional engagement lead for Social Work England. The session will include:

• An opportunity to get to know the renewal process and how to maintain registration as a social worker.
• An overview of continuing professional development (CPD), the CPD requirements, and how to meet the requirements.
• Ask questions.

The session with Philippa will last an hour, and the second hour is then some time for you to be able to start/continue to complete your CPD.

Completing training can be challenging at the best of times, with this in mind we are holding a training support group. This will take place at Yate Library, where we have pre-booked 7 computers and organised staff to be there to support you through online modules. We want to help the connected carers and short break carers complete mandatory training and see this as a supportive way to do this. SGO's are not required to complete mandatory training but are welcome to attend if they wish.

Please take advantage of this opportunity, supporting this session will be social worker Laura Wilkinson and Training Officer Chris Hill, they will be there to help with answering questions or discuss queries.

This blended half day course is designed specifically for online delivery to smaller groups of participants. It covers what self-harm is, and why people might hurt themselves, as well as providing space to think about what a helpful response to someone who has hurt themselves might be. It has a strong emphasis on bringing the voices of people who use self-harm to the virtual room, and provides space and time for reflection. This course has been developed to either stand alone or complement others in a series of events, and utilises a range of tools to offer a participative online training experience.

Worksheets, handouts and copies of the presentation will be available to complement learning.
