Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative experiences in early life and childhood that can have an impact on health and wellbeing throughout life.
South Gloucestershire is committed to developing a co-ordinated and consistent ACE-informed approach, with a focus on recognition, prevention and early intervention and the cultural change that may be needed to support that. An ACE-informed approach is moving away from asking ‘what is wrong with you’ to asking ‘what happened to you’. It is more than just knowing about ACEs; it is using that knowledge to work together to:
- Prevent ACEs in future generations, including breaking the cycle within families
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of ACEs to enable appropriate early intervention to build resilience 
- Recognise the impacts of ACEs already experienced in children and adults and help them to receive support
- Support and build resilience in communities, families and children who are at risk of exposure to ACEs

The ACE Ambassador Network includes professionals from across public sector agencies, VCSE organisations and communities, and experts by experience. As well as delivering ACE-awareness raising sessions, the network offers opportunities to share updates and best practice and to build professional relationships and support. We hope that this network will be the mechanism by which cultural change will occur.

This half day training session is for participants who have signed up to be ACE Ambassadors from a variety of settings and backgrounds. Participants will already have basic awareness of ACEs and their impacts across the life course. This session is aimed at managers or staff in any sector who work with adults or children and would like to know more about how to facilitate the culture change needed to become ACE-informed. This half-day course is FREE of charge. If you would like to find out more about joining the network but are unable to deliver training, please contact aces@southglos.gov.uk

Participants should have been identified within their organisations as ACE Ambassadors and have notified aces@southglos.gov.uk of their interest in the role prior to attending.

A 3 hour workshop on recognising and helping teenagers with anxiety. Using tools, strategies and sharing resources.

Ladden Garden Village is part of an exciting new neighbourhood in North Yate. The development has something for everyone with a range of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes. Once complete, there will be a primary school, nursery, local centre as well as lots of open space and sports pitches.

The Training, Support and Development Standards are a mandatory national requirement for all Foster Carers, Family & Friends Carers and Short Break Carers.
 
They are induction standards and need to be completed at the start of your caring career. To ensure that you are aware of the amount and type of evidence, skills and knowledge you need to prove, come along to one of these friendly informal workshops.

This Chartered Management Institute (CMI) recognised management development programme is for managers and aspiring managers from South Gloucestershire Council, neighbouring Local Authorities, and other organisations operating in the area. It provides an opportunity to reflect on your experience and working practices and is equally suitable for new managers making the transition from staff member to manager, existing managers who wish to build on their experience and aspiring managers who are preparing to make their first step into a management role. It sets out the foundations of knowledge and skills needed for development within a management role, and enables managers to identify further training and development needs. The programme consists of 6.5 days over a seven month period with 10 hours of self-directed learning. It will be delivered through a blended solution including face to face training, psychometric assessment, 360 review, action learning sets, individual coaching, individual reflection, skills practice and e-learning. You will receive CMI membership and a CMI certificate of completion of a recognised programme. The facilitators are Emma Ford (01454 864447) and Deb Parsons (01454 868273). South Gloucestershire Council employees will be recharged £75 to cover costs.

This course will run alongside the Level 3 Certificate in Leading Forest School. The training will include modules such as:

· Supporting Learning, Play and Development in the Outdoors

· Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

· Outdoor Practical Skills

· Assist at Forest School

Please note this course enables you to assist at Forest Schools and does not qualify you to run Forest School sessions.

This is a QCF accredited course through Cambium and Agored (QCF). You will have a workbook to hand in to complete the course. This should take approximately six months to complete.

Please bring a packed lunch as lunches will not be provided.

This course will enable you to assist at forest school sessions alongside a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader.

Entry requirements: Must have established link with a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader; be aged 16 years or over; be DBS checked and hold a Level 1 outdoor learning qualification or equivalent. A suitable first aid qualification is also useful to complement this course.

Through a combination of practical outdoor learning and indoor teaching, we will explore the benefits for children as child led learners for lifelong skills. This will enable you to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and the ethos behind the Forest School approach.

This is a QCF accredited course through Cambium and Agored. Subjects and modules we will cover include:

Supportive Learning, Play and Development in the Outdoors
Forest School Leader
Observation and Evaluation of Outdoor Learning
Sustainable use of Natural Resources
Teaching Outdoor Practical Skills
 
The course equates to 70 hours of taught time and requires, on average, a further 110 hours of self-study time from the student. Learners must complete a portfolio of work for assessment.

You will need to source and attend an appropriate two day First Aid course to cover you for working outdoors (not included in course cost).

This course is designed for those who would like to develop, set up and deliver Forest School programmes. This will enable leadership of Forest School Programmes linked to child development. 

Entry requirements: All delegates must be over 21, have a relevant Level 2 qualification, have a current DBS check, have an appropriate First Aid qualification and have an established link with a client group and a Forest School site.

This half day course is an annual refresher for individuals working in adult social care settings where they have responsibilities for moving people. This course will enable you to build on your existing knowledge and practice. Delegates will be expected to demonstrate how they move people and share knowledge through working on scenarios. This course is designed to be a refresher for anyone working in adult social care with responsibilities for moving people and attendees. Delegates from partner agencies will need to evidence that they have attended a manual handling course in the previous 18 months. Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear as there is a practical aspect to this training.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge to become a Breakthrough mentor; Breakthrough mentoring supports people to develop positive experiences and relationships, enabling them to achieve, grow and develop new skills and to realise their full potential. So what is a mentor? A Breakthrough mentor is someone who works alongside a vulnerable person (mentee) to empower them to become independent and live a fulfilled life. They will work individually with the mentee, using activities that engage and motivate them to gain confidence, self-belief and work towards independence. What type of person are we looking for? Our placements are unique and varied, which requires us to have a diverse group of mentors. You don’t need a set of qualifications, just special qualities that enable you to support your mentee to learn, grow and develop.
