This one day training course is organised by South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board Training Group and is targeted at all staff from all agencies who are working directly with children, or adults who are parents. Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgement and the ability to work together co-operatively. Staff with lead roles in child protection require specialised training in order to carry out their work with abused children and families. Please note it is recommended to leave a minimum of 3 months between attending Inter Agency Child Protection and Advanced Inter Agency Child Protection.

Understanding the psychological processes that lead to unconscious biases.
Exploring the unconscious biases in psychiatric practice, to do with how meaning is understood post the enlightenment age when reason (defined by the West) is privileged and how that affects how people’s stories (formulations) are subordinate to the science of psychiatry, which is not as robust as we believe.
Additionally, the course explores antiracist and feminist critiques and relates patriarchy to the gendered patterns in psychiatry (lower diagnosis of depression in men; higher BDP in women etc) and intersections between aspects of identity as evidenced in data, such as race and gender or gender and sexual orientation.
The exercises help delegates to see how racialised understandings and heteronormative and established gender norms influence their practice unconsciously and how this shows up in patterns in data not solely due to AMHP practice but failures to take account of pertinent information

This bite-size workshop supports student social workers on placement with the council to understand the current context around Telecare, Assistive Technology and the kind of equipment OTs use and recommend.
It is led by internal staff with expertise to explain the relevant equipment and to demonstrate what is available for customers, so that students have this context and awareness.
It takes place at Celestine House in Yate, to enable delegates to experience at first hand the newest IP/SIM card linked lifeline equipment in the house, which enables people to make “live” test calls through to the department's control centre. South Glos Telecare have purchased some of these new units in preparation for the switch from landlines to IP connected calls which will take place by 2025.
