Code: SGC/21/1026 Conversations with Carers (EVENT FULL)

This course will explore the crucial role that carers play as a key partner of Adult Social Care.

We will look at key data about carers, including in relation to some of the challenges that are commonly faced. You will also benefit from the opportunity to reflect on your own experiences, personal and professional, of caring and carers, and to learn from the lived experiences of carers including a guest speaker from South Gloucestershire. The Carers’ Support Centre will share their expertise in relation to working with and supporting carers over many years. Alongside colleagues, you will explore how to apply 3Cs, strengths-based approaches and legal literacy in your engagement with carers in line with South Gloucestershire Council ‘Carer Practitioner Guidance’. A key theme throughout the day will be recognising the positive impact that you, as a practitioner, can have in promoting the rights and wellbeing of carers and as a result, the wellbeing of adult(s) they care for.

Code: SGC/21/1281 Green Infrastructure Webinar (SGC Staff only)

Each webinar will be followed by a 2.5 hour workshop for which numbers are limited to 15 and booking is required. To find out more contact jacqueline.penman@southglos.gov.uk by 5pm on 29 October

Join us for an inspiring introduction to green infrastructure (GI) facilitated by the team at Building with Nature. This webinar will introduce what green infrastructure is and how high-quality GI integrated into projects at all scales can deliver benefits across our Council Plan priorities.

For staff from across service areas and at all levels who are involved in the planning, design, adoption and maintenance of GI, this webinar is an opportunity to come together to strengthen how we work together from planning policy to grounds maintenance to deliver and sustain the benefits of high quality GI.

Through highlighting examples of good practice and tools available, this is an important opportunity to progress a shared understanding and integrated approach regarding GI to support our work together across the council and with our partners.

To be held just after our Green Infrastructure Strategy is brought to the November cabinet and the global discussions at COP 26, these workshops will help catalyse our work in response to the Climate and Nature Emergency and help us prepare for new statutory requirements through the Environment Bill including Biodiversity Net Gain.

The role of green spaces for health and wellbeing for all has been highlighted during the pandemic and as we move forward, GI is playing an increasing role in regeneration plans for our high streets and communities and for new placemaking through our Local Plan.

Code: SGC/21/1098 Wellbeing Coaching - South Glos staff only (Emily Loveday) (EVENT FULL)

These 50 minute coaching sessions with coaches will assist council staff in coming up with strategies and action plans to maintain and build their wellbeing and resilience. Unlike counselling which provides a safe space to explore worries and concerns, these confidential coaching sessions will help staff come up with individual plans to help them build their resilience, understand what they can do to enhance their wellbeing and overcome current and future obstacles. There are activities and exercises that wellbeing coaches can also give people to work through in their own time if they would find it useful.

Please note these sessions will be delivered by skype or telephone.  Your coach will contact you to confirm the best method for you.
