We will consider the benefits of a direct payment for adults, carers, professionals and the Local Authority as well as the challenges that may be experienced. A direct payment recipient will tell you about how it helps them to live a good life. We will explore the role of the Support Agencies and the logistics of setting up a direct payment. Denise Swain will be available to answer any questions that you have about setting up the finances.

Code: SGC/21/1000 FCSG: Connected Carer Coffee Mornings (Cancelled)

The Purpose for the support groups

We realise that fostering can be really difficult at times. Perhaps the only people who really understand it are other foster carers and so therefore we want to give you a place to meet up.

There will be biscuits and/or cake, coffee, tea, and an opportunity for an informal chat at all of the meetings.

Although these will be informal meetings, each session will have a brief agenda, attendance list, and agreed group rules. This is to help those who don’t know anyone and feel awkward about coming along to a new meeting, to feel that they won’t be left alone on the side-lines.

Sometimes there will be speakers and topics as requested by the group, this will hopefully make it as relevant to your fostering as you like.

These sessions should be recorded on your Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Code: SGC/21/0984 Understanding what ADHD is and how you can support your young person.

In this session, Katie Pitman ( Educational Psychologist), will give a presentation on what ADHD is.

Would you like to know more about supporting children with attention difficulties including ADHD?

If so, please join our session run by the South Glos Educational Psychology Service. The session aims to give you a wider knowledge of ADHD and attention-related difficulties, how a deficit in executive functioning fits into the bracket of ADHD, and which children are more likely to have these types of difficulties and why.

We hope for you to come away with strategies to help a child cope with attention difficulties, to help you manage and support a child with these difficulties and to minimise the knock-on effects on family life. We also aim for you to have an understanding of the difficulties the child may be experiencing at school and help you understand the support system at school.’

This session is broken into 3 parts with activities throughout.

I would strongly recommend that you use a laptop or computer to access this training.  Tablets and phones have a very limited functionality ( ie videos, if used, cannot always be heard/viewed easily) and as a result, use of a computer/laptop will result in a much more enjoyable and engaging learning experience for you.

Code: SGC/21/1201 Wellbeing Coaching - South Glos staff only (Debra Parsons) (EVENT FULL)

These 50 minute coaching sessions with coaches will assist council staff in coming up with strategies and action plans to maintain and build their wellbeing and resilience. Unlike counselling which provides a safe space to explore worries and concerns, these confidential coaching sessions will help staff come up with individual plans to help them build their resilience, understand what they can do to enhance their wellbeing and overcome current and future obstacles. There are activities and exercises that wellbeing coaches can also give people to work through in their own time if they would find it useful.

Please note these sessions will be delivered by skype or telephone.  Your coach will contact you to confirm the best method for you.
