What is it? This is a new dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers, Including Special Guardians Why are we running it? We recognise that your situation is very different to that of main stream foster carers. The new role that you find yourself in now, is often not a pathway you may have planned on taking. Unlike foster carers, you are thrown in at the deep end without having had a course to prepare you for what lies ahead, and how ‘The System’ works. This course aims to do that as well as recognise the particular difficulties that you as ‘Kinship Carers’, whatever your role, face. How will it run? There will be six sessions, each lasting approximately 2-2.5 hours, which will take place over the course of a year. It is hoped that you will attend all six, but as new carers arrive, they can join the programme at any stage. The sessions will be led in the main by Social workers from our team. There will be light refreshment of tea and coffee provided at each session, but it would be rather nice if we could take it in turns to bring and share some food. The first session will be catered for, but we will discuss how this works for future sessions at the end of our first meeting. The session will focus on Safeguarding and Safer Caring

Are you up to date with local and national information relevant to early years? Come and join with other leaders and managers for an informal meeting specifically aimed at supporting the sector. This network meeting will provide an opportunity to receive and share information. Sessions are structured to facilitate and encourage professional discussion and dialogue. Subjects discussed will reflect national and local updates, consultations or imminent changes. Across the year a variety of topics will be explored.

South Gloucestershire Council has launched a new interactive training programme that gives Health and Social Care Workers the skills, knowledge, confidence and practice to apply and comply with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is made up of interactive learning workshops. The new skills and knowledge gained from the workshops are then applied in the workplace and you will send us evidence. You'll be given feedback as you acheive the required good practice and compliance standard of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The programme is designed for Care Provider managers, Social Worker and Occupational Therapy staff and managers, nurses and all other professionals working in health and social care. You can select from a series of modules as relevant to your job which are listed below.

How the programme works -
You attend a module workshop
You then submit evidence of what you have learned in the workplace (usually within six weeks)
You receive feedback which may be shared with your employer.

Once you have achieved the required standard for compliance and good practice in line with the MCA code of practice you will be awarded a certificate for that module.

Continuing Professional Development
This programme can be used by Social Workers as a basis for Accredited Learning under the South Gloucestershire Council/ University of the West of England Integrated Professional Development Programme
