Code: SGC/19/792 Launch Pad Session 3: Dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers including Special Guardians

What is it? This is a new dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers, Including Special Guardians
Why are we running it? We recognise that your situation is very different to that of main stream foster carers. The new role that you find yourself in now, is often not a pathway you may have planned on taking. Unlike foster carers, you are thrown in at the deep end without having had a course to prepare you for what lies ahead, and how ‘The System’ works. This course aims to do that as well as recognise the particular difficulties that you as ‘Kinship Carers’, whatever your role, face.
How will it run? There will be six sessions, each lasting approximately 2-2.5 hours, which will take place over the course of a year. It is hoped that you will attend all six, but as new carers arrive, they can join the programme at any stage. The sessions will be led in the main by Social workers from our team. There will be light refreshment of tea and coffee provided at each session, but it would be rather nice if we could take it in turns to bring and share some food. The first session will be catered for, but we will discuss how this works for future sessions at the end of our first meeting.

This session will focus on the transition of your role.

This 1-day workshop will help delegates to understand and be accountable for the key factors in managing and preventing organisational abuse in the services they lead and/or review. For full-day courses – The standard charge for this course is £80 per day. Please refer to our Course Charges on the Home page for information on discounts and exemptions.

Code: SGC/20/303 Promoting a Whole Team Approach to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in Early Years (cf)

This course is appropriate for newly appointed SENCOs in early years settings. It could also be used as a refresher course for experienced SENCOs and Childminders.

“Providers must have arrangements in place to support children with SEN or disabilities…. and must have regard to the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice.”
(EYFS Statutory Framework)

As a new SENCO, the SEND Code of Practice can appear to be daunting and challenging. This half-day course will help you to develop your understanding of the requirements of the Code of Practice and the role of the SENCO in implementing it. Through group work and discussions there will be opportunities to explore:

· The role and responsibilities of the SENCO
· The role of other staff in the setting in supporting children with SEND
· The processes required to support children once a concern has been raised through following the graduated approach

No charge for Ofsted registered South Glos settings
£60 for others
Subject to ‘no-show’ policy

NO-SHOW POLICY
It is important to note that the majority of our early years courses are subject to a ‘no-show’ policy. Payments made for chargeable courses are non-refundable unless cancellation is received at least five working days prior to the start of the course. For centrally funded courses, if a delegate fails to attend, or fails to cancel at least five working days prior to the start of the course, the setting will be invoiced for a no-show charge – this charge will be £30 if the course is 3 hours or less, or £50 if the course is more than 3 hours.

By booking on to any course directly run by the Early Years Team there is an assumption that you accept the terms and conditions of the no-show policy.
