Code: SGC/23/0011 Advanced Child Protection (previously known as Advanced Inter Agency Child Protection)

Please click here to view and download the course handouts

The training is organised by South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board Training Group and is targeted at all staff from all agencies who are working directly with children, or adults who are parents. Effective child protection depends not only on reliable and accepted procedures for all staff involved with children, but also on their skills, knowledge and judgement and the ability to work together co-operatively. Staff with lead roles in child protection require specialised training in order to carry out their work with abused children and families. Please note it is recommended to leave a minimum of 3 months between attending Introduction to Child Protection and Advanced Child Protection.

The Purpose for the support groups

We realise that fostering can be really difficult at times. Perhaps the only people who really understand it are other foster carers and so therefore we want to give you a place to meet up.

There will be biscuits and/or cake, coffee, tea, and an opportunity for an informal chat at all of the meetings.

Although these will be informal meetings, each session will have a brief agenda, attendance list, and agreed group rules. This is to help those who don’t know anyone and feel awkward about coming along to a new meeting, to feel that they won’t be left alone on the side-lines.

Sometimes there will be speakers and topics as requested by the group, this will hopefully make it as relevant to your fostering as you like.

These sessions should be recorded on your Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Code: SGC/23/0459 Time to Talk Coffee Afternoon

Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. It’s an opportunity for friends, families and communities to come together to talk, listen and change lives. We would like to invite you to join us for tea, coffee and cake.

We have arranged a guest speaker, Paul Field, to come and talk to us about The Art of Brilliance, who specialise in training and development to help people be more positive, motivated, and brilliant! In short, they remind people how to be their best self. This is going to be the start of a package of support from The Art of Brilliance for foster carers, social care staff, and young people.

You can find out more in the meantime at artofbrilliance.co.uk. We want our foster carers to feel able to talk to us any day though, and not just one day a year so the support will continue.
