Code: SGC/21/0068 Defensible Decision-Making

CURRENTLY DELIVERED AS A WEBINAR - you will be sent an invite to join (this will be from Sarah Clay, Central Consultancy)

This workshop is for South Gloucestershire Council Adult Care practitioners ONLY. Its key purpose is to equip staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make judgements and clearly record the rationale for decisions that are robust, supported by the relevant evidence and defensible when scrutinised by others. Practitioners need to assess people’s needs and their desired outcomes and then make decisions that keep that person and their carers at the heart of the assessment and support planning process. In all aspects of their work they have to find ways to balance a number of competing pressures including arranging person-centred care and support that meets Care Act and Mental Capacity Act requirements, whilst also managing risk and safeguarding issues effectively, using the organisation’s recording policy and using resources effectively.

Code: SGC/20/1385 FCSG: Men’s Group

The Purpose for the support groups

We realise that fostering can be really difficult at times. Perhaps the only people who really understand it are other foster carers and so therefore we want to give you a place to meet up.

There will be biscuits and/or cake, coffee, tea, and an opportunity for an informal chat at all of the meetings.

Although these will be informal meetings, each session will have a brief agenda, attendance list, and agreed group rules. This is to help those who don’t know anyone and feel awkward about coming along to a new meeting, to feel that they won’t be left alone on the side-lines.

Sometimes there will be speakers and topics as requested by the group, this will hopefully make it as relevant to your fostering as you like.

These sessions should be recorded on your Personal Development Plan (PDP).

Code: SGC/21/0234 Self-Care Masterclass

A 90 min learning session delivered by an expert in the field of positive psychology that will improve your understanding and enhance your work and personal life! At times of great uncertainty and stress, it is essential that we look after ourselves to the best of our ability. If we don’t look after ourselves we won’t be able to look after others. Being serious about self-care, we give others the permission and inspiration to do the same.

The purpose of this training session is to explore the fascinating world of self-care. To identify the resources we need to look after ourselves and others better. Delivered by Paul Wilson, the course contains insights from positive psychology, the latest findings from the science of wellbeing and the lasting wisdom of ancient philosophy.

What is different about the way Paul Wilson approaches and teaches about self care?

After many years in the mental health and wellbeing field, Paul came to the conclusion that most people know what general practices are good for their wellbeing. They don't usually lack information and opportunities. What they lack is capacity and inclination - so that is where he puts his attention. He focuses upon the 'self' in self-care. He gives people reasons to self-care and then he directs them towards the ways and means. He increases people's capacity and inclination to self-care by offering them perspectives and practices that can improve their self-awareness, self-compassion or self-esteem, for example. Then they are more likely to self-care.

This course is delivered via Zoom.  You will be sent a Zoom invite nearer the time.
If you are a South Glos employee you must request a Zoom Licence from ICT by completing a virtual conference requests form(Intranet Home Page, under ICT)
