Code: SGC/20/0928 Covid-19: What's Changed Legally? How to ensure human rights are protected in adult social care practice (EVENT FULL)

This 2-hour webinar is designed for adult social care practitioners and managers as a direct result of the current Covid-19 outbreak.

The British Institute of Human Rights deliver this session. It will focus on:
- Information on human rights and the Human Rights Act.
- The Coronavirus Act and the changes to legislation such as the Care Act (Easements), the Ethical Framework, the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act interface, and SEND legislation.

The session will also include information on specific rights in the context of coronavirus such as those on the prohibition on inhuman and degrading treatment (Article 3) and private and family life, including choice, control, wellbeing (Article 8).

There will be practice guidance in relation to:
* Individuals with/without Covid 19 and with or without mental capacity in relation to Coronavirus Act requirements, in care settings who refuse to self-isolate and place others (and to some extent themselves) at risk. This represents a particularly complex balance between the MCA and the HRA.

* Difficult decisions around people’s ability to remain in contact with family members, particularly at end of life, and how we can advocate for this / support with technology etc

* Balancing providers’ abilities to deliver services (reduced capacity) with peoples’ needs, and how to make decisions about what is essential and non-essential care.

* Using the Ethical Framework and the Human Rights Act as a tool to discuss decision making processes with other (health) professionals - particularly around access to life saving treatment.

Code: SGC/19/794 Launch Pad Session 5: Dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers including Special Guardians (Cancelled)

What is it? This is a new dedicated Induction, Training and Support Group for Connected Carers, Including Special Guardians
Why are we running it? We recognise that your situation is very different to that of main stream foster carers. The new role that you find yourself in now, is often not a pathway you may have planned on taking. Unlike foster carers, you are thrown in at the deep end without having had a course to prepare you for what lies ahead, and how ‘The System’ works. This course aims to do that as well as recognise the particular difficulties that you as ‘Kinship Carers’, whatever your role, face.
How will it run? There will be six sessions, each lasting approximately 2-2.5 hours, which will take place over the course of a year. It is hoped that you will attend all six, but as new carers arrive, they can join the programme at any stage.

The sessions will be led in the main by Social workers from our team. There will be light refreshment of tea and coffee provided at each session, but it would be rather nice if we could take it in turns to bring and share some food. The first session will be catered for, but we will discuss how this works for future sessions at the end of our first meeting.

This session will focus on Attachment

Connect 5 is an accredited, evidence based mental health training programme relevant to the whole of the public facing workforce.

It provides participants with practical skills and competencies to confidently hold connected conversations about mental health and wellbeing in their routine practice.

The Connect 5 Mini Module (3 hours) offers an overview of the core skills, methods and tools used to help participants feel confident engaging in a mental wellbeing conversation with those who are struggling.

Connect 5 takes the position that we don’t need to be mental health specialists to support those who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems. It is based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Five Ways to Wellbeing and Making Every Contact Count.
The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health.

These 50 minute coaching sessions with coaches will assist council staff in coming up with strategies and action plans to maintain and build their wellbeing and resilience. There are activities and exercises that wellbeing coaches can also give people to work through in their own time if they would find it useful.

Please note these sessions will be delivered by skype or telephone.  Your coach will contact you to confirm the best method for you.
