Event description
The sessions will explore how these communication skills will have a positive impact on day to day life, and also help us to respond in a helpful way during the tougher moments and in difficult situations..
Adolescence is a time of huge change for our young people, and for us. The session will offer some insight into what can help us stay well in the short and long term, and also help our young people to build the skills they need to stay safe and be healthy as they grow into adulthood.
Learning outcomes
- Explore compassionate communication; what needs drive behaviour and how we can help them and ourselves to stay safe and well
- Think about how the brain responds to threat, grief and trauma and how this links to teenage brain development
- Discuss the importance of curiosity and how to respond to difficult behaviour. (Linking to Attachment and PACE training)
- Think about feelings and how young people might communicate theirs, and how we communicate what we feel and support them in developing healthy responses
- Consider the difference between ‘normal’, worrying and problematic behaviour
- How to set boundaries and talk about the difficult stuff - online and in the real world
- Recognise patterns of unhealthy and difficult behaviour and when to ask for help
- Consider how to look after ourselves and create calmer homes
