Event description
Better Understanding of Young Asylum Seekers and Refugees
The Training will be provided by members of 1625 independent peoples Asylum and Refugee Intensive support team who have been providing support for young asylum seekers for over 8 years commissioned by Bristol and South Glos Social services and have provided support for a number of young people in fostering placements. We recently provided training to 80 Social workers as well as working with a Team from the Children’s Commissioners around good practice for accommodation providers.
Learning outcomes
This training will cover:
Explaining labels (Migrant / Immigrant/Illegal Immigrant/Asylum seeker/Refugee and UASC)
Why young people flee their homes and what decisions they must make on their journeys.
Communication / cultural awareness
A brief overview of the asylum system
Plus a time for questions and sharing experience.
We offer a training that includes a variety of different activities, to keep people engaged, throughout.
The learning objectives would be to gain an increased understanding and empathy and to see how the young persons past experience and hopes and fears for the future will impact most areas of their present and give us ideas of how to better support them.
