This course explores why technology has become so important in social care. Completing this online self-study course will help you become more tech aware and understand the difference technology can make to people’s lives and our work and why this matters. The course includes the legislative context and key principles of the Care Act 2014, the range of technologies available and their key functions, models of assistive technology delivery and how assistive technology fits within the personalisation agenda. You will also consider the benefits and ethical issues and relevant to assistive technology. It will also provide you with information of where to get local information, help and advice.

Who it’s for: All Adult Social Care staff including new starters, all CAH divisions, and external social care providers.

Learning outcomes
• To understand the drivers for change within social care in order to know why assistive technology is important.
• To recognise the legislative context and key principles of the Care Act 2014.

• To be aware of the range of technologies available and their key functions.
• To be able to identify the two main models of assistive technology delivery.
• To consider how assistive technology fits within the personalisation agenda and recognise its benefits.
• To be alert to ethical issues and recognise the ethical model applied to assistive technology.
• To know where to get local information, help and advice about assistive technology.
