THIS TRAINING IS OPEN TO PEOPLE WHO WORK IN BRISTOL, BANES, SOUTH GLOS, SOMERSET, NORTH SOMERSET, AVON AND POLICE AND NHS TRUSTS IN THESE AREAS

This session is for the Avon and Somerset Strategic Safeguarding Partnership. It is a multi-agency training session which benefits from the attendance of staff from the local authority areas of Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire Council, Bristol city council, Avon & Somerset police and NHS staff.

This course aims to increase the participants’ knowledge of safeguarding issues relating to disabled children and to introduce some skills and strategies to assist them in recognising and responding to possible cases of child abuse and neglect.

Aim
This course aims to increase the participants’ knowledge of safeguarding issues relating to disabled children and to introduce some skills and strategies to assist them in recognising and responding to possible cases of child abuse

Learning Outcomes
Participants will be offered the opportunity to:
· explore the current legislation, guidance and context relating to disability and safeguarding
· understand the social model of disability
· review lessons learnt from serious case reviews involving disabled children
· understand the particular circumstances which make disabled children more vulnerable to abuse, including the concept of created vulnerability
· assess the signs and indicators presented by disabled children who may have been subjected to abuse including any potential for confusion in interpretation
· understand the factors which may influence the threshold for intervention for disabled children.
