Most of us take our hearing for granted, but deafness has an enormous personal, social and economic impact. Government, as well as the Chief Medical Officer for England, has stated that hearing loss is now a major public health issue.

Some of your customers and colleagues will be deaf or hard of hearing and many will feel unable to access everyday services that hearing people take for granted.

This webinar, delivered by Gloucestershire Deaf Association, will aim to transform your thinking about hearing impairment. You’ll leave with new information and tips on how to support someone who is deaf or hard of hearing as well as some basic sign language skills. You will also learn about how the International Day for Sign Languages promotes awareness of the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and sign language users.
Learning outcomes
· Increased understanding of the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of deaf people and sign language users.

· Increased knowledge about supporting and communicating with deaf people.

· Consideration on how to make your services more accessible to deaf people.

· Learn basic sign language skills.
