Working with Asylum Seekers and Refugees: 4 half day training sessions suitable for any profession.


Following on from the previous course, we have condensed the previous five sessions into four, and are running them at a closer intervals which we hope you will find more helpful. You are also able to choose which sessions best meet your needs, and so as a result each course is set up separately on the system. We would recommend that in order for you to get the most benefit, that you attend all four sessions, but do realise that this isn't always possible.


Do you come into contact with refugees and asylum seekers in your work context, and struggle to know how best to help?
Are you caring for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people and want to follow best practice?
Are you concerned that your clients are getting lost in the maze of the UK asylum system?

This course may be what you are looking for.

About the Course:

1. The Refugee Journey: Consider patterns of global migrationto understand why refugees and asylum seekers might arrive in South Gloucestershire, and what they may have experienced on their journeys.

2. The U.K Asylum System: Examine how the system works (or doesn’t work) and the entitlements of refugees and asylum seekers at different stages of the process.

3. Unaccompanied Children: Understand why and how young people travel to the UK alone and consider the specific needs of this vulnerable group.

Please note: All participants for this session must have attended session 2, The UK Asylum System.


4. Intercultural Awareness: Explore how it feels to operate outside of your own culture, and to lose all that is familiar to you. Look at some fundamental ways in which cultures differ from each other, which may give insights into intercultural misunderstandings.

This highly interactive training is facilitated by Nese Davidson-Birch & Alison Clarkson Webb from Tamarisk Training, using a variety of activities including simulations, games, discussions, case studies.
